Title: Any interest in a AG Range /FT Course in the Charlottesville VA Area?
Post by: marty2 on March 19, 2017, 05:27:12 PM
I'm throwing this out there to see how much interest there would be in an Airgun/ Field Target Range in the Charlottesville VA  area. I'm in the process of joining a gun club in the area and a long time member of the club found out I shoot airguns. He told me that he has been trying to get airgun ranges introduced into the club but he encounters a lot of resistance by the officers of the club telling him there is not enough interest in airguns. They have a nice setup there and a nice spot to set up a Field Target course. I told him I would post here to see if there is significant interest.

Being a gun club I would  think you would have to belong to the club to use the facilities which involves a yearly fee. A benefit would be you can also bring your PBs and make a day out of it. All this would need to be worked out if it happens.

I'll run this poll for a month to see how much interest there is.

Comments please.

I think the gun clubs around my area just charge a little extra for the entry fee for non-members on the days they have FT competition.

I'm interested, Marty.  I live in Fredericksburg and I have a son at UVA so there's two more potential shooters.  Thanks!

Hey Marty,

I would be interested in such.  That would be as good a reason as any to get together with some other airgunners.  Have you mentioned this to Lloyd?

Yea, Id be in just as long as non member fees were not too high. Its a little bit of a hike for me so it wouldnt be an every day thing but it would be awesome to meet up with some AG shooters.

Hey Burke,
Haven't spoken to Lloyd yet but he told me a while ago that he was a member there. I'll shoot him an email.

It would be awesome to get some "local" events going.  I would not mind if we were to talk Lloyd into letting us drop by again in the next few weeks.  I have a new scope and mounts to try out on my HM1000X.   ;)

I'd certainly be interested in having events there.
I am a member of the club and the annual dues are pretty reasonable.  Also, a member can bring guests and they get in for no charge.
The club is run totally by volunteers, so I would think that setting up and maintaining a FT range would be the responsibility of the airgun members.

There are a number of different rifle and pistol and shotgun and plinking ranges already set up at the club, and several of them are suitable for shooting airguns.  So shooting airguns there can already be done.  Setting up the FT range would be a different story.

I'm a member too. And while I don't have an interest in FT I certainly would lend my voice to any support needed to set one up.

I'd be interested in a local field target course or (even better) a steel silhouette match.  I would rather pay on a match by match basis instead of joining the club.

The club does allow members to bring a few guests, so that might help the situation.

Not applicable to me, but Arlington (Texas) Sportsman's Club hosts a monthly field target match for the D-FW area shooters.  There's a match fee that is reduced for members (4-5 out of 15 or so shooters are), e.g. $10 vs. $5.

Also, they use the existing 3-D archery range for many of the FT lanes so lane maintenance is no extra burden on the club.

It works out well.  Hope it works out for you guys.
