Optics, Range estimation & related subjects / Monstrum Marksman Prism Scopes Review« Last post by bchannell on Today at 06:34:31 PM »While looking for a sight for my Notos, I tried several different scopes and then stumbled onto prism scopes and was curious but they are too expensive. Then I saw the Monstrum line of prism scopes that are around $100. I've seen some of Monstrum scopes and they are ok, but nothing special, so I didn't have much hope. I ordered from Amazon so I could return it if I didn't like it.
Well, the first is a Marksman 3X with the circle dot reticle. I read the specs, 5.5-6" eye relief, lighted reticle, so ok, I'll give it a go. It arrived and first look showed it was pretty darn clear and bright at all distances. As most know the dot is not like a red dot, so no astigmatism problems, as the dot is crystal clear. Illumination is perfect with absolutely no bleed, and plenty of adjustment. It's just barely visable in sunlight on high, but that's not what it's for. You need the turret caps or a coin to adjust the turrets. I've love to have finger turrets, but hey, you can't have it all. On my Notos, I was amazed at how handy that little dandy sight is. From 5yards to 40yards, I've figured out the dot hold over/under and can hit golf balls and pop cans at almost any distance mentioned. It makes for a super fun plinker, and believe it or not, using the correct bullseye, I've shot some super groups. These appear to be of a bit higher quality that Monstrum scopes for sure. After using it for a while, the 3moa dot is very good, but I decided to order a Marksman with the DX1 reticle, which is almost the same as the circle dot, except the circle is replaced by a segmented box around the dot, and the dot is now 2moa, but honestly I can't tell much difference. The second Marksman is just as clear and bright and both hold zero fine. For airguns, shooting from short to medium range, these are fantastic. You should give one a try, on the Notos, they're more fun than any other sight for plinking. 4

Yes your "airgun mechanic" is clueless 6

Air Gun Gate / So, where exactly IS the gas ram in this picture?« Last post by roj on Today at 06:19:32 PM » Sometimes you just don’t know whether to laugh or…laugh harder. As I indicated in a post a few weeks ago, the gas piston in my Hatsun 87QE Vortex went pffft. I had a couple of kind offers from GTA members to replace the seals for a small fee, but balked at the idea of two way shipping.
But lo and behold, I found a gun shop that also works on airguns just a half mile away. It’s called Boomstick. Cool name, huh? I couldn’t believe my luck. I took the Hatsun by the shop where the owner confirmed that they do indeed have an airgun mechanic but he was out of town for the weekend. So I explained the problem, left the gun and waited to hear. A week later I got a call from the guy who wanted me to fill in the details of the issue. It started getting weird almost immediately. He started asking unusual questions like, “did I know how to take the gun apart?” and “did I know how to fix the gun?” along with several others that did not inspire confidence. He said he’d go to work on it. A week later I got a call from him saying that he was having difficulty getting the gun apart and did I know that the trigger was broken? Of course the trigger couldn’t have been broken (when I brought it in, that is) because how else would I have known that the piston seals were shot unless I’d been able to fire the gun. Another week went by. Now he’s REALLY having problems, like not being able to “find” the piston or the seals, and I’ve finally come to the conclusion that he has no idea whatsoever. (Nor does he know how to fix the darn thing.) But he did clean the gun! I encouraged him to join GTA and post his questions here, knowing that at least one of our multitude of experienced gun techs could help him figure things out. Plus, I thought I might be doing him a favor and that all the GTA expertise might actually improve his overall skills as well as beef up his business. ANOTHER week went by and I called again, but getting no answer I decided that enough was enough and went to pick up the gun. He said that the gun was not completely back together, but I didn’t care. So he handed me back the case and said that all the parts should be in there. And here they are, I think. But I couldn’t swear to it. Oh, wait. I DID find that pesky piston. 8
Daisy Gate / Re: Daisy 747 Pesky Intermittent Leak« Last post by Ronno6 on Today at 06:14:22 PM »The leak has to be getting past the exhaust valve poppet.
Would it help if I was to lap the valve stem to the valve seat by disassembling the valve and chucking the stem (thru the hex body but without the spring) shaft up in my Dremel... Then installing the assembly in the valve body and lapping using a polishing compound or toothpaste??? VERY GENTLE pressure to avoid too much heat........... Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm 9
Machine Shop Talk & AG Parts Machining / Re: oring internal to barrel or on bolt?« Last post by Rick67 on Today at 06:07:30 PM »A .177 MROD barrel would also work if you pair it with a .177 Fortitude bolt and probe assembly. To clarify, I’ve never tried the PROD-.177 MROD barrel-Fortitude bolt and probe combo, but it’s here somewhere. It was thread by Mr. John/FuzzyGrub that also included (I think) the Fortitude tube mods, which only requires 2 forward-location additional breech holes to fit the PROD breech. I have the Fortitude tube (about $30 shipped) but have been procrastinating having it drilled 10

I absolutely love mine. For the shooting I do I couldn't ask for a better all around rifle. I wish it was still available. Hector, that rifle has never disappointed me.
