Striker .25 Vortex 3 Gas Ram fail

I have a Hatsan Striker 1000 Vortex Gas Ram .25.
It has been sitting for quite a while, so I tried to shoot it, when cocking it when limp.

So I opened it up and it has a Vortex 3 gas ram.
When I push in ram piston by hand it goes in easily and does push back out without much force.
I assume the gas ram went bad.

I have tried to find Mikeyb stuff here on GTA but without alot of luck.

I have a Crosman NP2 ram if it would work, or I have some coil springs for conversion.

Does the Vortex 3 gas ram allow refill thru the end hole ? ( I do not have a fill probe yet  8.8 mm ? )

Or what dimensions would conversion to a coil spring  be ? and how to mount an end cap to hold spring in ?

Or how do you make a NP2 gas ram fit ?

Alot of questions - so thanks for any help and guidance.

Another Vortex bites the dust... why am I not surprised? I feel your pain now #7 (seven) times over. Just pulled my Torpedo 155 Vortex from seasonal storage and it is completely LIMP. That rifle was shooting so well I had not opened it up yet. This will be my first time inside the Torpedo series so I am uncertain if I will convert it to a coil spring or attempt to reseal the Vortex.

Vortex type 3 to NP is a very simple conversion....
The type 3 Vortex has no complicated end block...just a locating dimple.
I can't remember which NP unit I used, but a simple locator cap/spacer for the butt end, and I think all went together well.

Hi Robert.
I have a Crosman NP gas spring inside my 25 cal. Hatsan Edge.
I followed Mikeyb's instructions and everything went well.

I made a plastic spacer and was going to try a test re-assemble.

But I have a small 1/2" x 3/8" black plastic piece from when I 1st got trigger assembly / Vortex piston out the back.

I have a spring exploded view but no gas ram exploded view of the Striker 1000.

I do not know where this small plastic piece goes.

Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

Does not look familiar, but it has been a couple years now.

I think it fits between the trigger block and the screw that holds trigger block and end cap. Curved part to side of screw.

Now to figure out where a bent wire spring goes - I think it pushes safety back ?

( I am very famirial with Beeman/HW break barrels - this is my 1st time opening a Hatsan )

OK got it from You-Tube trigger mod.

Now take a few pictures ( so I remember ) and put in NP2 ( maybe tomorrow )

Put it back together ( again need 3 arms ) but with old Hatsan Piston Seal ( maybe nicked )

I have a Custom Air Seals seal I bought several years ago but I could not get it on the piston.

Since this was a test to see if NP2 gas ram worked I figure I will try to get CAS seal on later.

It shoots.

Old chrono with H&N 20 gr pellet was at 695 fps.
New NP2 ram is at 680 fps with old seal.

Well a one shot wonder.

Second attempt will not latch - just starts to but not enough.

Opened up and my spacer is cracked - I used a 1/2' thick piece of PVC fence plank drilled out.

Oh well at least I am gaining knowledge.

If anyone can make me one of the proper material for a fee, please let me know, thanks.

PVC is too brittle. That's why PVC should NEVER BE USED for air supply lines. It can work for awhile but will "grenade" shrapnel and hurt you.

HDPE (old cutting board) and PEX pipe are much tougher. My spacer was old cutting board plastic but you can buy a new board relatively cheap at places like Walmart.

Edit: UHMWPE ultra high molecular weight polyethylene is amazing stuff. Hard, impact resistant and almost as slippery as Teflon (PTFE).

The one shot wonder was not the PVC end cap on a NP2 gas ram.

The trigger adjustment screw was all the way in ( I had previously changed it to a 3mm allen head screw ).
So when I turned it out the trigger latched.

In the mean time I spent more than the gun is worth ( deeper rabbit hole ).

I got a HDPE 1/2" small sheet and the drill bit to make the 18mm hole for the NP2 piston.
Then I also got the Hatsan Type 3 piston and some piston seals from Hatsan.

Put in the Hatsan piston and it would lock latch - figured out it was the trigger adjustment screw.

But I learned alot and had fun tinkering. Next project a HW45 just bought.
( regret selling my P1 - so I got another )
