Hatsan Vortex Gas Spring Specs

Does anyone have, or can point me to the specs for the various Voretx gas springs?

I have 2 different units labeled "Type 1,"  one of which has a cylinder that is 1-1/4" shorter than the others..
The end block is a touch different as well..........

The Hatsan chart calls out a Type 1 and a Type 1-B but none of the units display a "B"

I'm assuming you are looking for CAD drawings with dimensions and tolerances? I've searched but have not found any. Hatsan may not want to make those public.

I have NOT tried to ask Hatsan directly for Vortex drawings.

Nah......basically just stroke lengths........

Same ram but shorter stroke maybe Hatsan factory tolerances If one model had a shorter stroke it would need a different part # no doubt.

I've been using some rough measurements of piston (not spring) travel in my Hatsans to calculate swept volumes and simulate shot cycles.

My measurements are not precise so if precision is required I think you may need to take measurements directly off the different types of Vortex air springs.


Mod95, Mod85, Mod87, Edge, Striker, Torpedo 100/105 series, use 27mm Small Piston Seal

I use ~100mm or ~4" for the piston travel. Add about ~1/8" for Vortex pre-load and ~1/8" for Vortex over-travel needed for piston to catch trigger latch. That means Vortex air spring shaft should have a full travel distance of at least 4.25" for this series (18-24 fpe) air rifles.

Mod125 all versions, use the 29mm Medium Piston Seal
Mod135, Mod130, Torpedo150/155, use the Large 30mm Piston Seal

As far as I can measure these last 2 groups have the same piston travel distance of ~127mm or ~5". Again, adding a little extra for preload and over-travel the Vortex shaft should have a full travel distance of at least 5.25".


The OLD Alpha youth rifle (500fps max for mine) used a 27mm piston seal but the piston travel distance was shorter. Never measured it but likely around 3" ??
New Alpha looks like it has a longer compression tube attached to an Airtact barrel assembly. GTA folks who have tried the newer version Alpha claim velocities near 700fps. Don't have a new version so I cannot confirm its performance.

I was incorrect... the longer rams are Type 2
The shorter one is a Type 1

These numbers are starting to boggle my brain......
