Shot an early BSA Meteor: WOW!

Lillysdad621 had me shoot his hopped up early model .177 bsa meteor: WOW!
At 25 yards, scoped and rested, the dime size spinner was a sitting duck.
I am not a great shooter but the old bsa meteor made me look like one.
I have heard the all-metal trigger described as 'serviceable', 'ok', etc, but I thought, 'nice and crisp!'.
The barrel has all kinds of play but the accuracy sure doesn't. English magic left over from Merlin and the Round Table boys, no doubt.
Other springer purchases are on the back burner now, German springers don't seem quite as uber as they used to, and Churchill looks downright slim and athletic to me in all those old pictures and movie reels.
Thank you, BSA!

Way cool, Matthew!
Early Meteors are highly regarded, especially for the cheap, at the time revolutionary manufacturing decisions they feature. I'd buy a Mk.I or II Meteor if the price was right. For some reason, every Meteor coming my way has been a late-seventies gun, which are pretty terrible by most accounts ("worse than low-end Chinese"), while also being amazingly difficult to service, for a small, simple breakbarrel gun.

Nice !
Always already liked the BSA's, they always deliver ! From springer to PCP. Their barrels are one of the best out there. For me personally, I would pick up a BSA over a German airgun every day.

The Mk1 and 2 are very rare here. I have a very nice Mk1 and it's completely different from the cheap blond stock later guns. Mk1 were built to compete directly with the Diana 27. And they did quite well. The later Marks? What would you expect from a painted instead of blued gun? The Ithaca imports were horrid. Not unusable, just horrid.....
I have MANY BSA springers from 1906 all the way up to Stutzens and Mercury Challenger and UK Supersports. The prewars were ahead of the Germans. And the Germans copied them. But When the HW50 and later 55 and 35 came out it was game over for BSA. Ever after a step behind German. Same for UK Webley, as much as I like the Vulcan, Stingray, Longbow, Tomahawks. I prefer some of the Webley features but still consider the HW to be overall superior. Prefer my later UK Webleys to later UK BSA for the most part. I want a walnut Longbow so bad!

The Meteor MK1's had the best triggers of the whole line up IMO.

Agree. Bought a 22 caliber meteor at an auction with the piston stuck in the air tube. Lots of penetrating oil to get it apart. (PB Blaster)
Ordered seal part from TW Chambers which were quite reasonable in price and shipping. Order arrived in 10 days and after honing air tube, smoothing some rough edges, replacing piston O ring, buffer and breech seal I now have a solid little shooter.
