Went to the local gun show today. A Daisy 25 for $150 and Crosman Shilo for $179. I passed.
But spoke with most of the vendors who had older guns ( not the taffy or jewelry or olives tables), let them know I’m an airgun guy. I’ve got some cards printed out and passed them out to the guys at the tables. Turns out I just missed out on a bunch of old airguns that were in with a collection of PB’s. And got leads on some other airguns ‘that don’t work ‘. Never know what might come of it.
While it’s unlikely to find a nib Sheridan Model B, for sure you won’t if you don’t give it a try.
Just a thought for you airgun scroungers who live near gun shows.

That is crazy smart. I went to a gunshow last month only one table of airguns and they were &^^&. Said I would only go to airgun shows, you have a much better strategy. Making lemonaid out of lemons,

I've gotten some real good deals on airguns at gun shows. Most firearms guys don't know anything about them.

Then there's also the guys wanting $100 for a B3...
At our nearby shows (3 towns), it's usually slim pickins'... one or two mixed in with the PB's.
BUT there is always this ONE GUY with a table of airguns.
He is a nice Gent, willing to talk and deal, but he KNOWS what they are worth. His inventory does rotate so I know he is active...Can't believe he is not a member here.
Lives in Ft. Wayne.

Hey Steve, I rarely get accused of being smart, but thank you!! Actually, I just copied the idea from an airgun bud, Bob Sloan, who printed up an 'airguns wanted' card and has been passing them out everywhere he goes. One of the old time collectors used to have an "I buy pellet and bb guns" sign that he'd put in the window of his car everywhere he parked. Never tried that one myself.
While we are on the subject of scrounging for airguns; back home there was a 'flea market', should have been called 'old junk market', once every couple months. Unbelievable assortment of old tools, cooking utensils, dishes, dolls, and other flotsam and jetsom. But, I went one time and there was a Daisy 717 on one of the tables, right next to the spatulas and old bowls and rusty shoulder-drive wood drills. So I talk to the guy and end up buying the pistol. I tell him I'm an airgun guy. Turns out he and all the other junk collectors hit every garage and estate sale in the region, and he'll keep an eye out for pellet and bb guns.
I go back at the next show and he's dug up a beater Western Auto Revelation. After a while, he and the other vendors I talked with started bringing airguns to the flea market. Mostly junk guns that were marginal even for parts, but I would buy them, cheap, just to keep them searching for me. I did get a nice Diana 24 and a like-new Benji 347 and some other decent vintage guns. Not screaming deals, but very reasonable.
Point is, I let these guys do all the legwork, so I don't have to go to 10 yard sales to find that one airgun. Sure, you end up with a pile of Daisy 1894's and Crosman Powermaster 760's, some chinese truck sale guns, nothing NIB. These guns are great to practice your rebuilding skills on, maybe cannibalize for parts, or sell for scrap metal. But, once in a while something decent comes along. You may not get a steal of a deal on them, but then again, your time may have value and your won't have to go to dozens of garage sales.

Ken, don't worry, I never throw anything away. It's my biggest fault, or at least it's in the top 10. Love the 76x's, but some may have gone the parts route. I'll eventually pull them out and see what I've got. Just gotta get to it.
