Some guns you take them out dozens of times and just don't seem to find game while you are carrying them, ( Like my REX Mini-Carbine ) like if she has a spell ;D ;D
Other guns just seem to attract hogs ;D ;D
My last successful hunt was with the Storm .30 that I just bough on tthe 1st hunt and got a nice big saw, then I sent it to Will Piatt for a tune ( that by the way came out fantastic, I'm gonna make a thread as soon as I get some time )
Anyway got the gun couple days ago, put a scope on, took for a hunt today and again,....a magnet ;D
So I've been sitting in my tree-blind once a week for a couple months just watching and giving a pass to a bunch of saws and small boars,
I know that saws at some point will bring in tail big boars.
Been watching this particular group of 3 Medium small Saws coming in for well over a month,
today again they showed up, and I almost got a heart attack when they where followed by this nice big boar ;D ;D ;D
The hole under my feeder got so deep that took a long, long time to line up a shot, couple times I figured I missed my chance when the boar left in a hurry, but after some agonizing minutes he came back ;D ;D ;D
I knew that at some point I either needed to take a risky shot or give him a pass, corn was almost finished so he was moving a lot and in quick bursts, also soon they will probably just leave.
he finally gave me a good broadside but I had to shave the rim of the hole to make the shot,....I took my chance, and believe me it was a big sight of relieve when the front legs locked and he went perfectly still for a good second,...I knew then I had him.

Very nice! It is nice when repeated waiting/stalking finally pays off.
I am assuming you eat the hogs? How do they compare to commercial pork in taste and fat content.
-
Good hunt Manny... great to see you out there gettin after 'em.
-
You shoot behind the ear? I see no hole.
Nice shooting.
-
Nice one Manny!
-
Nice one Manny. Look at the shoulders on that brute!
-
Patience just paid off. That's a serious porker.
As always thanks for the hunt and sharing.

Totally different, zero fat on Wild pigs.

Nice shooting.
Between the eye and the ear, but was on the other side, he trashed on that side so it was a bit to messy to take pictures,......in a couple weeks I'll show the cleaned skull,
curious to see the exact shot placement, since I had to avoid the lip of the hole I'm expecting it to be quite high on the skull, ...we'll see, he never stud still for a second, it wasn't an easy shot and I'm not 100% sure of the exact placement.
-
Thanks for posting. You keep the rest of us inspired during the off season!
-
Thanks Guys, appreciate the input, ..really do.

Heck yeah, I'd even put on one of those flowery shirts for that luau. And believe me. I'm not a flowery shirt kinda guy.
-
very nice, bruddah! That's a big ol boy! 8)
can't wait to see the shot placement.
-
Nice shot, nice pig. Good size cutters on him.
1st pic looks like one real solid head on that hog. Pellet or slug and what size?

Ho yeah sorry, forgot :) :)
JSB 50 gr .30 at 90 FPE
Yeah, pictures don't do it justice thick Boar, the shield was thick and super wide, strong shoulders and neck, thick head, lots of scars, this guy was a fighter.
-
Interesting to see the penetration from the JSB once the forest creatures clean up the skull.

Well, there's gonna be a hole one side but no complete passthrough, will not be able after the skull has been cleaned out to see what the travel was.
Only had a couple of complete pass through in the years but It wont happen with a .30 at 90 FPE

Indeed, patience is key
I could have got impatient and shot a couple those saws in the past couple months and probably would have never seen this Boar.
-
Nice job on the big boar Manny! Great shot as always, but you had to sweat a little on the shot too. He was worth the wait IMO.
-
Great hunt Manny!!! I sent my Storm .30 to Will for that exact same tune!!! This gets me even a like more excited to get her back. Mine will by my dedicated fur gitter!!! Lol plan on getting out this year a lot more. Great hunt and beautiful porker!!! Enjoy some carnitas and tacos!!
Take care My Brother

Thanks Chacho, got your Storm back yet ?
Need to go and retrieve the skull from this porker one of these days :)
-
I'm always curious to see shot placements. Looking forward to seeing that skull.
There's nothing wrong with flowery shirts! Calico prints with little bitty flowers were common fabrics used for men's shirts in the colonial and early 1800s era. Also, during that time pink was considered a very manly color and, so, few women wore pink during that time. People change; people forget. I know trivials like this because I've kinda sorta been in the Rendezvous scene over the years.

We’re sitting on the edge of our chairs waiting in anticipation.
Do you tie / stake down your piggy skulls to keep them from “walking” away?
-
No I don't, they get moved around but remain in the general area,
sometimes it takes a bit to find them but I always end up finding them eventually :) :)

Finally got around to go check the skull of the beast.
Nice neat .30 cal hole right between eye and ear.
-
FASCINATING stuff, Manny! Why have I not seen this thread? And the picked-clean skull!
-
It's like a surgical drill was used to make that hole...

That's indeed what a good PCP is, a surgical instrument :)
-
Wow that's a beast right there! How much did it weigh..250ish?
-
Can't really tell how much he weighted, but I can tell it was a thick, strong rough boar.
-
Nice shooting again Manny .
Thanks for posting the pics of the skull after the act too. always interesting to see .
Your hunting threads are definately Inspiration for us out of season guys up here in the north.
