Title: Stoeger X20S2 for backyard plinking
Post by: Tucannon on August 16, 2018, 05:42:08 PM

I got the X20S2 in .177 for a backyard plinker they say if is quite and we will see.  I will run some shots and give a report but so far it looks ok for the price.
More to come.

Well it is quieter then my other springer's the first three shots weren't bad and I did not adjust the scope, it is out of the box.

I shot seven times it is not bad for a out of the box airgun.
I will keep it like it is for the first 50 or so.

They are quiet. I have the 22 version and the loudest part was the spring. Got mine on sale for $99.00 which is a bargain for this gun. I sleeved the piston to reduce twang, lubed with moly and installed a GTX trigger. I am running the factory 4x32 scope and after adding the trigger it became one of my most accurate guns. I have the ATAC and A30 gas rams also but my X20 is the most accurate even with the cheapo scope. Mine hits targets out to 50 yards, the limit of my backyard range.

That's some darn good shooting out of the box. It will do better with some TLC and better trigger.

They are nice guns for the money.  Get a Charliedatuna trigger blade for it, and don't worry about accuracy until you have put at least a full tin of pellets through it.  The spring is louder than the report from the muzzle, and a decent tune will.quiet that down nicely.

Enjoy your new toy.

Well its been Smokey here for a few days and I have not been out shooting but today that all changed and I got some time with the X20S2.

The more I shot it the more I like it I will soon order up a  GTX trigger.  Today was at 50ft

So far I must say that I'm impressed from what I've be hearing and seeing about these guns, I'm pretty much PCP only but if I was going to get a break barrel it would be this one.  I've been watching about these guns since they were introduced at the IWA show.  I think I actually seen stuff about them even before that show.

I have went through about half a tin of CPHP’s on the X20S2 and this is what I have at 10 meters this is five shots.
Not bad for all stock, I think its a keeper.  It may be the best shooting springer I have. I need to go back to 50ft and check it out there.

For a new, stock gun that's some fine shooting.....no, that's some excellent shooting.  I don't understand why these guns are not more popular. Since I added the trigger on mine it easily hits a 3" diameter aluminum disk at 50 yards and whacks it pretty good.

Easy to cock with good power. Mine averages 737fps with a 14.3 pellet. After my John Thomas tuned RWS48  it's my favorite gun. It out classes many of my stock, much more expensive guns.

I am glad to hear that others are happy with the S20s2 also.  I had never had a break air gun so I ordered one a few years ago.  Mostly because I could not pull back my archery gear at that time.  I was recovering from some major surgery so did not have any strength, but I could just barely cock this little gun.  I wish I had a place to shoot 50 yards, so I just shoot in my little shop, about 15 feet.  A few critters in my back yard have found that this little gun does do it's job quite nicely.  1 Crow, several cottontail rabbits and 2 squirrels, plus one really pesky stray cat.  I am shooting 7.9 grain domed hp's and they are fairly accurate and deadly.  Fun and cheap to shoot!!  Also, my 10 year old Grandson likes to shoot it when I take him out to the rifle range!
