Title: Start up WFTF
Post by: Win M70 on July 23, 2015, 07:46:44 AM
   So often in my research regarding WFTF Piston class competition, looks like
rifle/bum bag/pellets are enough to start. Sounds simple Often many state that;
contact with current WFTF  team members is available for help...Can anyone supply links to enable utilization of this offer/. USA TEAM members...anyone? Thanks...

   Being well aware of your excellent talents/knowledge, I am very appreciative for your personal reply. WFTF is hopefully the "International" glue, binding future air gun competition. 12 fpe will definitely add a new twist to my  WFTF journey.

Having just reduced power in my TX 200 to the >12 ft lb level. I am really looking forward to the next FT competition. I already like the way the gun feels shooting at the lower power level.

I am on the team this year on the PCP side.  If there is anyone specifically you are looking to get in touch with, let me know.  More than happy to help

Thanks

I shoot Open/Piston. For me, no difference when compared to WFTF. Except that I usually shoot a higher power rifle.

I sit on a mat though a higher seat or bum bag is useful for some targets.

Rifle (with scope) and pellets are enough to start in any Division.

   Thank You, Mr. Hull. Having contacted Jeff C. on the "junkyard" I am aware of your expertise. Diana 54, de-stroked to 12fpe was/is my choice.So I voraciously pursued all like information. I use a Diana 52, soft tuned, to 940 fps w/8.44 JSB's.
Or 835 fps w/10.34 JSB's. to participate in HFT. Since HFT  is so filled w/controversy I felt the stability of WFTF  was a best case scenario for a raw beginner to the current AAFTA controlled competitions. Rule compliance is crucial to a Newby. I want to play by the rules.Learn how the correct/legal game is played.And enjoy my new found hobby. Not wonder if I am non compliant i.e. a Cheater.Rules are Rules. Make clear decisions and stick to minimum concise rulings. To a new guy,60 yrs ,I almost feel guilty for being able to shoot prone. And allowing one to turn down higher power scopes to 12x tape or mark is NUTS! Price concerns were cited in concern for new guys. .Please realize new guys spend money too.  Leapers, low cost will get one started.We are new. No ole Center
Point in the drawer to cry about using...SO OFF TO WFTF. Guess I am off and
running.Thank You All. Win M70

Win M70,

You can shoot that Diana 52 as-is in Open/Piston. Basically the same as WFTF/Piston. I shoot my full power Diana 54 in Open/Piston (and Hunter/Piston). I don't use a harness or shooting jacket, so the only difference is fpe.

Next year, I plan on shooting my 12fpe, 12x, PCP carbine for everything. When I shoot it, I can choose Hunter, Open, or WFTF without changing my equipment or style.

   Thanks for your reply . Re: Diana 52 For Open/Piston is indeed a logical
conclusion. This will allow me to use the 16 fpe,  rifle. in the manner I had
planned. But, understand my frustration.
    My, and four other "Springer Shooters", ages from 20 to 60 plus wil, by Mon. August 3,2015 have added another AAFTA  voting "Club" to the roster. Perhaps
by joining change can occur.
     Well off to prepare, Time better spent on ranging/practice. Win M70

This is my plan as well; some shooters are perplexed that I would shoot HFT at 12fpe, but I believe if it is good enough for the sport, then it is good enough for me.

@ Win M70:
Whether in Open Piston (up to 20 ft-lbs), or in WFTF Piston (Under 12 ft-lbs), you can use whatever scope magnification you want. I use a Sightron 10-50X60 set at 27.9X (because that is where the 2 MOA hash's -true at 24X- become true ½ milliradians).
So, no need to fret over magnification on the scopes for those two divisions. You are limited to 12X on the scope ONLY if you shoot Hunter Division.
To discern the difference between a target that is placed at 52 yards and one that is placed at 55, you will need from 24X onwards.

@ Dragon 64:
If you want to OPTIMIZE a spring gun for Hunter, you should probably be shooting at between 13 and 14 ft-lbs. If your gun likes the JSB or AA 8.44 grs. pellet, you can drive them at 850 fps and be smack in the middle. Cocking effort will not be too high, and consistency and reliability will be exactly where they would at 12 ft-lbs.

Hey Hector, thanks for the info.  Right now I am building a PCP for Hunter usage, and it will be tuned to sub 12fpe.

Dragon;
In a Hunter PCP, you can go up in power with no ill effects. You could try the 10.5 at almost 900 fps and it should be a great advantage.

Héctor

Good day Hector, thanks again for the recommendations.  The reason I am going to shoot Hunter rather that WFTF, is due in large part to my own physical limitations; nothing that a little diet and exercise could not take care of.  But note that I would rather shoot WFTF, and plan to in the not to distant future, and that is why I will be shooting Hunter at 12fpe.  I have been following a thread at the Yellow FT forum by Brad Troyer  that is quite interesting... I for one, would be quite interested in such a division if it ever came to pass... it is off topic for this thread, so I will just post the link and leave it at that:

http://www.network54.com/Forum/451309/message/1448997610/Another+thought+on+the+Unlimited+class (http://www.network54.com/Forum/451309/message/1448997610/Another+thought+on+the+Unlimited+class)

I know that a higher power would give a greater advantage to me as a shooter, but I am looking for more of a challenge, rather than an advantage.  Once I progress to WFTF, then I can take on the challenge of learning my scope etc. and that is a whole different subject.

Dragon;

if you REALLY want to challenge yourself, then get  springer for WFTF.

 ;)

I've shot my D54 for several years now. And it is indeed an incredible satisfaction.

Keep well and shoot straight!

I know someone who has a TX200 he purchased over seas that is factory set at sub 12 that I have considered purchasing.  I may reach out to him and see if it is still available.  I like the idea of not having to mess with (scuba) air from time to time... Sub 12 may also be a little nicer to my scopes!

I have seen hector and those guys shooting sub 12 fpe springer's and I am amazed at how well they shoot. I shoot wftf pcp and have wondered about trying to shoot springer. Then common sence takes over and tells me to stick with what I am shooting Lol. The challenge of sub 12 fpe is so addictive I was hooked after my first mach and really enjoy the matches I have competed in. The best part for me has been the drive to loose weight and get in shape to become a better shot.

Well, if Mrs. Santa can move past the cost, it looks like I may get the TX200 stuffed under the tree...

I did indeed get the TX200 (Sub 12 fpe) and an Optisan 3-12X44.  The rifle shoots like a dream, I could not be happier.
