Please help me by adding to the list with your posts. And if you see errors, please tell me, but be gentle. I will modify my original post to include your additions so that the entire list can be viewed in one place. Thank you for you patience and cooperation. Please scroll down.

Darn Mac (short for Apple Macintosh) does not have that program and I am still getting used to this thing. Thanks for the kind suggestion. I will take the list down to the library (IBM compatibles short for International Business Machines compatibles) and see what I can get done.

Try this--I think this is what you were talking about. Again, thanks for the suggestion. Mike

FYI,
If you have (if not make one) a google gmail account, you can then use Google Drive to maintain files on line. On top of that, they have their own version of word/excel/power point (watered down a bit), but for maintaining an list of definitions it is easy. you can sort the column as well, just like in the real Excel.
These apps work on any platform, pretty much.
-
I had always thought of "Flying Rat" as being a pigeon. Starlings I see referred to as "Yellow Beaks". Maybe it's a city folk thing.

You may want to add:
FFP first focal plane Rifle scope, the reticle and sight picture are on the same plane, therefore remain proportional so the reticle never covers more or less of the target using any an all magnification available as holdover/under never change with magnification!
SFP second focal plane Rifle scope, the reticle and sight picture are in different planes, therefore they do not scale together so the reticle does not remain proportional to the sight picture, except for only one calibrated magnification, typically 10x. The reticle is froze while the sight picture changes in size, causing the reticle to cover more or less of the target.

Thank you, Christopher, for you HONEST opinion. Mike

I noticed that "AA" is in the list as AirGuns of Arizona. Airguns of Arizona uses "AOA" on their web page to represent "Airguns of Arizona".
"AA" I have seen represents "Air Arms" as in "Air Arms TX200 MkIII air rifle".

Don't forget to add TLA - Three Letter Acronym
-
and on parting shot tba not tires, batteries and accessories but to be announced later or gsyl = goodby see you later...gsyl

The list of acronyms and abbreviations can be quite long.
I have a few that I believe have not been listed.
POA = Point of Aim
BT = Bushy Tail (squirrel)
G-hog = Groundhog
ME = muzzle energy
BC = Ballistic Coefficient
"C-Rat" which was mentioned comes from "Country Rat" (possum) which you will see a lot in the Hunting Gate with furbearer season fast approaching.
Someone said Yellow Beak for Starlings, but we also abbreviate that sometimes to "YB".
We also have a lot of abbreviations for pellets such as:
CP = Crosman Premier
CPHP = Crosman Premier Hollow Point
CPH = Crosman Premier Heavy
SD = RWS Superdome
SHP = RWS Super Hollow Point
Kodies = Beeman Kodiaks
FTT = H&N Field Target Trophy
FTS = Field Target Special
Preds = Predators (Polymags)
I am sure there are others that I can't think of right now.

I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned "pasture poodles" for prairie dogs. They are sometimes also known as "pasture pups".

At the Jersey shore we refer to sea gulls as flying rats.

I have never that in the 7 years I have been here. But pasture poodles is not really an abbreviation.. It's longer than prairie dog :)
Yes, most people refer to pigeons as flying rats - on the GTA anyway. But I can see New Jersey calling the sea gulls the same. NJ probably has more sea gulls than any other bird or critter.

I think we all suffer from "Acronyminitis" - overuse of acronyms.

from:
http://www.airguns.net/faq.php#faq3 (http://www.airguns.net/faq.php#faq3)
F.A.C. stands for Fire Arms Certificate. A F.A.C. (usually printed as FAC) is required in the UK for airguns over the 12 ft. lbs. of energy since anything over that limit is considered a firearm. FAC in the US is only relevant in that you know that a FAC airgun is not limited to 12 ft. lbs. or energy.

Thanks Vince!!!! That really explains a lot.

There have been some additions to the list of Abbreviations/Acronyms. You will see that the first post in this thread was edited a few minutes ago. Yes, I have added to the list and will continue to do so.
Earlier today, "woodbutcher" asked what OP stood for. Well he can get the answer by looking down this list. Enjoy!

Yes, Pappy, TOTALLY! And you may have noticed that I almost always write using complete words. Occasionally, I will use a contraction. But it ain't often! Hee hee
When this thread started, I had been on the Forum for several months and was having trouble with the acronyms; and I had started writing them down on a tablet at my desk. I figured if others were have similar problems, we all would benefit from a published list that could be "Bookmarked". I consult it about twice a weeks (at least) and I continue to add to it.
I hope you benefit from it.
Happy New Year
-
We all do Mike, and thank you for your efforts in maintaining this. We all appreciate it.
Allan
-
Thanks Mike. Always wondered what DRT meant...
-
Thanks Mike. Here in Michigan seagulls are polish chickens. Geese are Canadian chicks. Do you know why Geese fly over Ohio upside down? NWSO. THANKS AGAIN JEFF
-
I almost forgot. LOL ;D
-
Now I don't feel so bad about a dumb question. This is the only place I know where I can talk about AGs without seeing eyes roll up.
-
Neil, "Knowledge is Power". Someone once said the only "dumb question" is the one you don't ask. Enjoy the list - and it is a work in progress; so check back occasionally.
Mike - Louisiana

LWH ... Light Weight Hammer
TP ... Transfer Port

"Cujo" ..... my wife.
Just kidding sweetie .... :o

Scott, thanks for the additions to the list. I have included them and a couple more and EDITED the list today (6/30/15).
-
BIL - Brother in law
MIL - Mother in law...
-
BIL - Brother in law
MIL - Mother in law...
I thought MIL = .001 :-\
-
Thanks, George. I have added your suggestion.
-
Thank you, Dave (ezman604), for the latest addition. The list is current at the original post.
-
Thanks for keeping up the list Mike. I wish there was something like this when I first joined.
ETA: Just thought of one. FT could also mean "Flat top" (piston).
-
Suggestions added - thanks Jerry. After being a teacher (English and other subjects), I saw students struggle with our American language. I figured this list would benefit me and decided to publish it here. I am proud and honored that you find it useful. I do too.
-
Since you have CCP (Concealed Carry Permit) on the list, it probably makes sense to add CCW (Carrying a Concealed Weapon).
-
Makes sense to me too. Thanks Larry - CCW added.
-
You should probably also add EDC (Every Day Carry), which can apply to either handguns or knives (and probably other stuff as well but those are the most common applications).
No, I'm not trying to increase my post count, I just didn't think of this when I posted previously.
-
And the list continues to grow. Thanks all for your help.
-
Thank you Don (sfttailrdr46) for your addition ---> SWMBO <--- and that is how it works in this house. 8)
-
Great list! A couple from some other forums in other fields of interest to suggest:
WMWW = World's most wonderful woman (wife)
#8 = Buying a cheap gun and then spending money on it modding it and then claiming it's as good, or better, than the expensive gun you couldn't afford.
-
Thanks, Glen, and your suggestions are now part of the list.
-
Thanks Joe. The acronym, N.U.A.H. has been added.
-
Heck, I forgot about this thread/list.
We should have "stickied" this thread a long time ago.
-
This is awesome and several are plain hilarious. Yes I know acros are time savers and fun to use. I may use a few on occasion, but I really like to practice Elon Musk's approach on the over-use of acros:
"Acronyms Seriously $uck (@SS Rule)
May 2010 email from Elon Musk to All@spacex
"There is a creeping tendency to use made up acronyms at SpaceX. Excessive use of made up acronyms is a significant impediment to communication and keeping communication good as we grow is incredibly important. Individually, a few acronyms here and there may not seem so bad, but if a thousand people are making these up, over time the result will be a huge glossary that we have to issue to new employees. No one can actually remember all these acronyms and people dont want to seem dumb in a meeting, so they just sit there in ignorance. This is particularly tough on new employees."
source:TheSpaceXFanClub/posts/bKzSoTimHEH
I work in a government job, and anyone in the military knows, the casual use of acros is ridiculously excessive. This is not the government, but we do have new members who come to the forums to learn.
I strive to be clear in communication so the information is conveyed, FWIW.
-
Bump!
I have added a couple new ones to the list.
I think about the use of Abbreviations and Acronyms like speed bumps in the art of language usage. But that is just me. I wonder what George Carlin would have to say on the subject? ;) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Carlin
-
Thanks William (wll) for helping me add to the list. Check it out.
And thanks to all of you for looking in and using the list. After all, that is why it is here.
-
When writing, if you wish to use acronyms (acros), spell out the word first, followed by the acro in brackets, so the reader can have a context.
read this:
FWIW, the use of a HDD with a SSG is completely unnecessary IMHO, but YMMV.
-
Scott, thanks for your suggestion.
The list is still growing - another addition today.
-
XLNT! Self explanatory? = Excellent! Have used it for years in eBay feedback where you don't have much room to get wordy.
-
Thanks, Terry; it has been added. Maybe now it will get used more on this Forum.
-
RO = Range Officer This little addition was picked up from Int3man's thread about the rifles and stuff that was stolen from him recently. Please help him get his lost possessions back in any way you can.
-
This thread has been running for over three years.
A little history: When I joined thisGTA Forum (my OAO "Forum"), I was baffled by some of those shortcut words members were using. So I started my own private list that I could refer to as needed. Eventually I published it. And it continues to grow!
-
The word in red (below) comes to us from my sister in Georgia. I am including it here instead of in the list because it actually has nothing to do with air guns or this Forum. But since it starts with the word "air", I thought you might find it interesting anyway. Maybe some on GTA will use "airbnb" this Thanksgiving week to get extra cash to invest in more air guns and/or ammo. ;) airbnb It is a sort of informal Bed and Breakfast accommodation. People all over the world are renting a room or their whole house at fairly low rates. It is a very popular way to travel with the Millennials.

-
I came across a new one today - thanks to Bentong ---> Re: The Sort of new Maximus from Crossman (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=119773.msg1157803#msg1157803)
The winner is CPH and it has been around a while; but I just missed it.
-
Thank you, Travis (oldpro), for today addition = TSS
And another one added today comes from Craig (CraigH) = CAPOF
EDIT: The edit is because I am adding two new one today.
-
In NYC pigeon are SKY RATS
but more important I know
POI = Point Of Impact
but POA?
POA=Point of Aim
I am a newb so I am guessing.
thanks
-
Thanks Sparky. I had missed POA. I too had a difficult time when I first became a member with all the shortened words and phrases. Hence the list.
-
There are a couple of additions to the list - thanks to Dave (ezman604) and Joe Brancato of AirTanksForSale.
Also, I would like to say a special thanks to Dave for taking the time to do the EDIT part. You may recall that recently, the Modify menu item was removed. Just a small thing but a little help is now required to edit a thread after it has been posted for 30 minutes or more. Good job guys.
-
See the post above.
I have decided to create my own "Editing Button". - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -> MODIFY
I wonder if it will work? ;) :D
-
How about one for the computer programmer types:
IF POI = POA THEN DRT else BOOHOO;
If Point Of Impact = Point Of Aim Then Dead Right There Else BooHoo.
-
Tom, that MODIFY button I put in does not work. Go figure! >:(
So, I am gathering up a few additions before I go bother the moderators with an EDIT to my list. Thanks for the suggestion - it will be added -- eventually. :(
-
The Modify feature has been reinstalled; and that means I dont have to bother the moderators to revise the list.
Thanks to Don (NVreloader), there are several additions. And thanks to all of you that visit this thread.
-
BUMP!
-
It has been a while since any new stuff has come along. Recently someone posted ETA. So Estimated Time of Arrival has been added. As always, additions will happen "whenever"!
Thanks all for your suggestions.
-
How about PITA, simply because I don't want to write out Pain-In-The-(you know what)? This is an acronym I have seen many times on many other forums. Or is this something you want to censor?
-
I'll add one. Synrod = Synthetic stock gen II Marauder.
FWIW, FFP = Fist Focal Plane not point
-
How about PITA, simply because I don't want to write out Pain-In-The-(you know what)? This is an acronym I have seen many times on many other forums. Or is this something you want to censor?
Mike, at the bottom of the original post [where all the terms are found] there is this statement: I see these acronyms used, but I will not put the definitions because it violates what we are about. And I encourage you to refrain from using them too as they are in poor taste. JMO
I still feel that way. But thank you for your suggestion.
Keith, thanks for those additions - I will be adding them soon.
-
Yes I read that, but since PITA was not one of those listed at the end, I didn't know if this qualified. It can be pain in the anatomy. :D
Regarding terminology, here's an interesting and well-reasoned essay on the topic that I just came across:
http://livingstingy.blogspot.com/2018/01/a-brief-tortured-history-of-political.html (http://livingstingy.blogspot.com/2018/01/a-brief-tortured-history-of-political.html)
-
Mike, thank you for the article. Very interesting.
-
David [d.lead.slinger], thanks for the latest additions "HFT".
The list grows! Check it out.
-
Thanks for this!
-
Gary, first, welcome to the GTA Forum.
And I hope that during your surfing here, you get some use out of the Abbreviations and Acronyms.
-
How about "Brod"? I don't see that one here.
-
Thanks Doug.
After a little research, I found BRod and the definition was Bottled Marauder. I have included it in the list.
Keep them coming, everyone.
-
Here's another: TJ. It's apparently a barrel manufacturer; but they're talking about it in another topic, and since no one tells what it stands for, I can't look up the manufacturer's website. I wish everyone would use the full name in their first reference, to let newbies know what they're talking about.
-
Here is a chance for someone who is in the know to really shine.
What manufacturer is being referred to when the initials TJ are used?
Inquiring minds want to know.

So apparently the whole name of the company is "TJ's Enterprises," and they don't have a website. There is a "T & J Enterprises, Inc" well-drilling company with a website, but that's different.
-
No website. I have an older price sheet if you'd like a copy.
Actually Lloyd posted it back in 2016.

I did find "NUAH" is the "Nothing under a hundred" club.

Do they have one for "Old guy that don't use abbreviations" OGTDUA
Except for a few common ones like LOL or JMHO I'm lost when I run across most of these.
Well, a lot anyway.

Rick, this is the exact reason I started this project in the first place. And like I mention at the bottom of my list, there is another good list in the GTA Library. I found the Library list after it was pointed out by Dave [ezman604]. <--- He is sort of the BOSS around here. Hee hee
Thank you for your suggestion, OGTDUA. I am going to be adding it - So check back in a while to see your contribution.

This list is great very helpful!
I see TSS, on the list, SSG, SSP, but someone explained on a thread* what SSS is, the triple-S approach in uncertain pest control situations:
SSS . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Shoot Shovel Shut up

SSS has been added to the list. Check it out!

Hermann Weihrauch (https://www.weihrauch-sport.de/?lang=en)
-
Doug, the Air guns from Weihrauch Sport. Their models start with HW
Until jackssmirkingrevenge posted the above link, I never made the connection to it be Herr Herman's initials.
-
Doug, thanks for asking the question about the HWs.
Jack, you supplied a web link that is now part of the list. I appreciate that.
Scott, you information will help fill in blanks in the minds of many.
The information has been added and the list will be updated soon.
You guys rock!

How 'bout "bbl"? It seems to be barrel, but specifically what kind?
-
How 'bout "bbl"? It seems to be barrel, but specifically what kind?
Doug, you have just, very effectively, pointed out the difficulty with Abbreviations and Acronyms.
I have seen "bbl", "brl", and "bl" use to refer to barrel. It has been used to refer to a rifle barrel, a pistol barrel, and even the barrel part of a hand pump. You and I seem to have much difficulty with these inconsistencies, don't we?
Ms. Rachel Ray, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachael_Ray (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachael_Ray) on her cooking program, used "EVOO". She immediately followed that up by saying "Extra Virgin Olive Oil" so everyone would know what she was talking about. Doesn't that defeat the time savings factor when using Abbreviations and Acronyms?
I think I irritated some of the GTA members (that's "Gateway To Airguns") when I sent them a PM (that's Personal Message) to inquire as to exactly what they were talking about when they used an Abbreviation or an Acronym.
However, over the years, some Abbreviations and Acronyms have become so widely used that they need no elaboration: NASA (for National Aeronautics and Space Administration) and NAACP (for National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) are a couple examples. Not all Abbreviations and Acronyms gain this level of FAME though.
In conclusion, I will say that we all should to take care to keep our communications clear and meaningful to all our audience members.
Doug, give me a few minutes, then check the list in Post #1 of this thread.
Thank you for your interest.

Thanks
Bill, please forgive me for the delay in answering your post. The Easter Holiday, Coyote hunting, and my grandson's baseball game have kept me busy.
After researching the link you posted above, I saw that it dated back over four years ago to January of 2015. I suppose that is why I didn't recognize the specific abbreviation you were talking about.
Please give me a few minutes, then you check Post #1 of this thread.
-
Bbl has been used for decades as an abbreviation for "Barrel" in the automotive world.
"4 bbl carburator" vs a "2 bbl carb"
-
Scott, being around cars and repair shops since I was about four years old, I know what you are talking about. There are also 2 bbl and 4 bbl pistols. But if you look on Wikipedia, barrel is NOT abbreviated for the pistols or carburetors. Hmmmmm!
-
Wikipedia is new compared to past decades of automotive nomenclature.
Dang... I suddenly feel old. ::)
-
Add COW, COWW and SOW, SOWW.
Clip On Weights, Clip On Wheel Weights, Stick On Weights, Stick On Wheel Weights.
Took me a while to look those up earlier today or was it yesterday?
I should have known what it meant, but sometimes my brain just doesn't index as it should. ;)
Oops... I forgot to say THANKS! I now have this thread bookmarked!
-
Kerry, are you talking about these? ---> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tire_balance (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tire_balance)
These additions may take a while to show up. If you are looking at the first post, that is where all the changes have to take place. I no longer have "Modify" privileges and must go through one of the Moderators. I am probably going to request an upgrade after the first of the year.
Thanks you for the input.

Thank you! Until I saw the link in your sig, I didn't know this list existed. It really should be a FAQ page on GTA!
I read these abbreviations on one or more of the bullet/pellet casting gates.
Thanks again!

Kerry, it is a sticky on "Liz's Forum Help Desk". Yep, it is right on the top of her desk. Liz's Forum Help Desk (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?board=220.0)

Yeah, but something like this should really be at the top of the page with:
- Home
- Forum
- Help
- GTA Library
- GTA Mall
- Old GTA
- Search
- Profile
- My Messages
- Calendar
- Media
- Members
- Chat
- Donation
- Logout
JMHO. Thanks again and thanks to Liz as well!

Kerry, Navigate the forum and you will be amazed at what you find. ;)
As far as your list goes....
That is a little excessive don't you think?

Not sure what you mean. I was talking about the links at the top of every page. Some of them I never use and probably never will.
However, a FAQ link with things like Abbreviations I would use and most people would be able to find them easier, imho.
That is the way I have seen it done on other forums and it seems to work very well.
JMHO.

I think the use of a lot of abbreviations makes it a PITA to understand some posts. :D
I'd rather we just spell it out. How much work do these abbreviations really save? Are we that lazy, or is it just so we can feel superior to someone who does not understand the jargon?
-
Not sure what you mean. I was talking about the links at the top of every page. Some of them I never use and probably never will.
Well then, there you go.
Your choice I guess.
I got shunned at a corporate meeting for saying the acronym for Whats The Fuss?

Somewhere in my education I remember being taught that in writing, especially in *journalism*, you should first spell out what you are talking about before you use any abbreviation(s).
I know I don't always do that and most people don't do it. It only REALLY bothers me when "journalists" don't do it. Then again, there are no true *journalists* these days.
Sometimes I actually DO know what the abbreviation stands for, but my brain just temporarily can't access that part of my memory. (sigh)

Kerry, as mentioned back in POST #139, changes are in the works. I no longer have Modify privileges; so the changes must be made by one of the Moderators or an Administrator. In this case, Dave (ezman604) is the only one on line now. It may take a little while. Keep watching.
Thank you for your input.

DONE!
Thank you Dave for your Lightning Speed action.
Hey everyone, EZMAN604 rocks.

An interesting and useful thread that I stumbled upon by accident. Kudos! Let's see, how about "Range Rat" for ground squirrels or "Pasture Poodle" for Prairie Dogs? "Rafter Rats" or "Roof Rats" was what we used to call pigeons. And let us not forget, TANSTAFL: There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch.

Carter, thanks for the bump!

WOW! Over 35,000 views.
Thank you everyone for looking in.

I saw this post a long time ago but lost track of it. I knew a guy a couple of years ago that wold make up his own abbreviations on the fly. I always had a time trying to figure out what he was saying. One day I got a text from him that I could not break his new code so I sent him back a bunch of random letters that meant nothing just to get even, LOL. He tried to go on though until I explained to him that it was code that meant I can't understand a thing you are trying to communicate, because I don't speak in tongues! :P
-
...it was code that meant I can't understand a thing you are trying to communicate, because I don't speak in tongues! :P
Yupp, that's just the way it is we've got all kinds of airgunners:
▪pentecostal/ charismatic airgunners (who speak in tongues)
▪cessationist airgunners (who don't)
▪baptist airgunners (who had a special initiation rite when they started believing that airgunning is their thing)
▪reformed airgunners (who were airgunners almost from birth)
▪independent airgunners (who are not locked into a certain type or brand of airgun)
▪church gun-hopping airgunners (who can't decide on what airgun they like, so they buy and sell, and switch, and switch again)
Anyhooow, just couldn't help myself typing this out....! 😄 Rabbit/Squirrel Killer's comment just set my mind in motion......😄

And we are all part of the airgunner family. There is room for the whole family here. I think the last two post may belong on the joke thread though, humor was the intent.

ab·bre·vi·a·tion
/əˌbrēvēˈāSH(ə)n/
Learn to pronounce
noun
a shortened form of a word or phrase.
With nothing better to do, I was sitting here thinking about the definition above. Some abbreviations are like Daisy BB Guns - easy to use and understand. They are hanging in and enduring the test of time. Others are like some Pre-Charged Pneumatic air guns - complicated, hard to understand, and often fade away; never to be heard from again.- Some abbreviations have even replaced the words the represent. By that, I mean that some/most people never knew or have forgotten what the letters have replaced. A couple example are:
- DNA = Deoxyribonucleic acid
- GPS = Global Positioning System
- ΊF = Fahrenheit
- It is obvious to some that it is much quicker and simpler to use the abbreviations. But there is often a problem when an individual makes up/creates a new abbreviation without telling others what it means.
- An example: While hunting squirrels, I harvested three that were SITH. Two more were shot at, but I HATI.
- Interpretation: While hunting squirrels, I harvested three that were Shot In The Head. Two more were shot at, but I Hit A Twig Instead.
- What is the message here? The short answer is that abbreviations are 'Good' and 'Bad' depending on the audience/reader. Animals have been struggling with LANGUAGE for many millions of years. We may have made more changes in the past 100 years that in all those millions of years before.
- To borrow a term from the United States Forestry Service, "Tread Lightly!" (when using abbreviations.)
-
How about this abbreviation for the form navigation that we have all lost track of?
Manual Analog Positioning System
MAPS
-
Bicycleman, yes, it is a problem. Sometimes it's just a bit irritating, like when people say "ATM machine" when the M already stands for "machine" so they're saying "automated teller machine machine;" but it's just plain wrong when, not thinking about what the letters stand for, they mix up "FPS" with "FPE."
-
Since I have worked in medical for close to my entire adult life, I favor abbreviations. They save time, and to me, are more pleasant to my eyes and to my mind, than most written out technical words.....DNA (mentioned earlier) and RNA are great examples. There is a pretty standard list that applies to shooting, fps and MOA being just a couple of them, and I don't find it unnecessarily difficult to become comfortable with reading and understanding them.

For those that can't figure out "IDME" it is be cause I made it up on the fly and intentionally did the ATM like repeat too for humors sake. LOL
"IDME" = I don't mind except" ;D
This is the first time I think that I ever made up an abbreviation, and I don't plan on doing it in the future. (except my answer to the cryptic text message guy to make a point that I couldn't understand him)
The practice of making up abbreviations on the fly almost ensures misunderstandings.

A Shorthand for Writing Projectile Diameters When Keeping Records of How Each Diameter Performed
Testing pellets (.22): JSB Domes 15.89gr (and their rebranded twins) come in 4 diameters (head sizes) so, how do I keep it short when noting down which diameter produced which group? H&N Baracuda Match and H&N Field Target Trophy come each in 3 diameters. RWS SuperField comes in 2 diameters.
Testing Slugs there is only 1 diameter from some manufacturers (FX, AVS), there are 2 diameters from most others (H&N, JSB, Griffin), and NielsenSpecialtyAmmo.com alone offers us 5 diameters.
Again, how can I keep my notes short, and the entries in my ballistic calculator short as well?
➔ So, for myself I came up with an abbreviation system for projectile diameters to keep it short:

mm = size in mm
ctv = cvt in = converted mm into inches

abbr2 = alt abbr = alternative abbreviations, based on the last digit of the metric size
imp abbr = imperial abbreviations

abbr2: ('8 ) ('9) ('0) ('1) ('2) ('3) ('4) ('5) ('6) ;)
imp abbr: I did not find a good way to abbreviate the imperial size...! 😟
Maybe this helps someone! 👍🏼

Sometime this year the coding of the GTA internet pages must have gotten messed up because if I press ENTER to start a new line/ a new paragraph, I HAVE TO PUT A SPACE at the end of the previous line.
➔ Otherwise the page overrides my explicit wishes and adds line 2 to line 1 no new paragraph and so it messes up my post.... 🤦🏻♂️
Well, and with the less-than-helpful editing limit of 20 minutes for a post.... 🤦🏻♂️
➔ So, here's the table of abbreviations again.

I've noticed this happening too. I have to manually double-space with the "enter" button and leave and extra space.Thought it was just something on my end.

I noticed that too! Maybe we should all just leave out all punctuation too, to save space?
NO PLEASE, NOOOOOO!

Over the past several months, I have noticed that Acronyms are being used less and less.
Must be a Pandemic thing! I am OKAY with fewer abbreviations and acronyms. But the Pandemic - it can go to he!!.

So, Mike, you're OKAY with that? OK. 👍🏼
I've gotten the vacc. on Aug. 2, so the RONA doesn't do anything to my abbr./acro's use anymore.
On the conrary, my use of abbr. is back up to max., just as if the pandmc. never happened! 😊
So is my AG shopping! A GTA member just fedex'd me a used PCP, with 2 BSA bbls. in .177 and .22 cal. The reg. needs replacing, and for my backyard I'll need a mod. It came with 2 hi-cap. mags. 👍🏼
Bought a N/V scope, too. Mag. range is a little low, just 3-9x, but the FoV is huge, 40ft at min. This also gives me a large DoF, great for ratting where they change range quickly. Min. parlx. is 8y, perfect. The ret is a moa SFP, calib. at 10x. Via Wifi I can connect to an app on my phone to watch my kills in slo-mo.
⚠️ Note: The mfctr. of abbr. will be rolling out their new post-pandmc. line of acro's and abbr's.
ROFL 😄

Matthias, when I first joined this Forum, I realized that it was, at that time, a group of folks that used many abbreviations and acronyms that I didn't know. So, I spend much time stumbling around in posts trying do decipher the meaning of what was being printed. And I noticed that some abbreviations and acronyms were used over and over. So I started making a list of those I knew. I also asked for the meaning of those I did not know. Eventually, I published that list on this forum a little over four months after joining up. It has been added to many times by me and other members of this Forum.
At the bottom of the list, there are a couple of statements that most members have adhered to. Others simply did whatever they wanted to do. Many were reprimanded by the Moderators. Also, some no longer visit this Forum for a variety of reasons.
I don't look up to those who never use abbreviations and acronyms. And I don't look down on those who use them. It is what is. In fact, I use them occasionally but not frequently.
Sadly, the list has not been edited/added to for a long time. That was a personal decision based on the way the Forum has evolved. At one point, it was very easy to edit/add to the list by using the Modify feature found on your post. The 'Modify' stayed on the individual posts at that time. The Modify feature has since been placed on a timer. What that means is that one has a limited amount of time during which to EDIT what she/he posted. After the limited amount of time has expired, the post is 'locked'. The post can later be edited but only by a moderator or administrator. Those ladies and gentlemen are busy people that have lives to live without being burdened by my whims and wishes. The list is still useful to some but static.
Thank you for reading this thread.
**[Oh, I forgot to mention that the entire list is shown in the very first post of the thread.]

Mike,
I probably would have done an acronym list when I joined some years ago had YOU not already done so! 😊 VERY GOOD move on your part, Mike. 👍🏼
I lament very much the LIMITED TIME to edit my posts. I frequently have additions and improvements to make, but I'm sad that we all have to suffer because of the #!₯oπ§! of some people.... 😟
My practice is to use the full term once with the abbreviation (abbr.) in parentheses. After that just the abbr.
I want to communicate with clarity more than I want to communicate with brevity.
Keep up the good work, Mike!
Matthias 😊

Sometimes I notice mistakes I made or have new details that would be good to change or add later, but I miss the stuff that was deleted on forum exit too. I think it is a good idea to have posts become "forum property" as a protection of content for all. I wish the edit time was a little longer for those times I notice that I typed the wrong word, or not what I intended somehow. I have read some of my older posts that had me questioning what I was trying to communicate, that's scary, but also lets me know my brain recovery from my subarachnoid hemorrhage has been progressing! At first I think I only made sense to myself for a couple of weeks. I couldn't remember how to spell very simple short words for a while. My thoughts and speech areas of the brain were slightly disconnected, at least that is the way I would explain it.
