Question on refinishing a Boyd’s

Not the best picture. I bought a discounted Boyd stock that was meant for a Marauder. The price was right so I bought not knowing how it would fit. It was a lot of work but I am happy with the results. Fits better than a glove. However I have a question, Boyd uses Polyurethane finishes and that’s what I plan on using. Does anyone know the proper prep to insure adhesion to the base coat?

Rottenstone and Renaissance Wax combo work well for laminates.
You can find threads on how to use it at RFC (rimfire).

I sanded it down with 220 grit but not down to raw wood. Applied the first coat and was concerned it was not going to setup and cure. I finally broke down and applied a second coat just hoping it would cure. As the temps warmed and the humidity decreased, the finish is curing and should be ready this afternoon. Made a trigger guard last night I will be installing this evening. Man I really like this stock and this gun
