I am a new to air guns and BSA R10 SE is my first PCP.
I am trying to get some help with the fill probe.
Issue is with the fill probe and fill probe socket protective plug seating. It appears they do not have snug fit all the way into the socket. I do notice the protective plug piece comes off during use.
Please advise if this is suppose to be normal with this model.

From the picture it doesn't look screwed in all the way, is it cross threaded? There should be a delrin seal inside that seal two together. What do you mean by the protective plug piece?

That does look to be cross-threaded. Could he have mixed up the thread type? The BSA is a Brittish thread spec (1/8 BSP or BSPP). If he got the 1/8 NPT version, it would jam up crooked like that, wouldn't it?

Here is the picture of the black plug to cover the fill probe socket.
As you can see in the picture, it doesn’t seat in the socket either.

Hmm, now I'll to have a close look at mine to see how far it actually goes in, if the non-SE R10 MK2 is comparable. My hunch is both are ok, except that part about the fill port plug isn't staying in place doesn't sound right.
Properly lubed, it isn't a tight fit, so it will come out unless they've included a shoulder on that port plug to jam in the fill port (I have to wonder how often the fill probes slip out while filling). As for the fill probe, is air getting into the gun when you try to fill it?
One other item to check is to make sure everything is lined up and square in the stock. When I've worked on mine, I have to be careful to properly line up the regulator block with the rest of the action, otherwise it either won't go back in the stock or I'll see it is misaligned when I look at the gage. Can you add a picture of the view looking directly at the pressure gage (and into the fill port)?

please find few more attached to this post.
Black piece is the fill socket cover. My understanding is that this should fit in flush to protect the socket.

Alignment looks good.
Hmm, two o-rings? (The others I've seen use just one.) No shoulder either. It looks like the plug is just bottoming out in the fill port and that little bit sticking out is so you can grab it to remove it. (The others have a little string on them, but I'm not sure if that is pull it out or just to keep track off it after you remove it.) Here's another test: use a toothpick to measure the depth of that fill port and compare it the length of the plug.
Judging from the location of the two o-rings, they are probably using two o-rings to get the extra grip to hold it in. Installed, I think they are stopping short of the port to the tank inlet--it's a small hole on the front side of the fill port; The orings on the fill probe straddle that port.
I wonder if you could replace the o-ring closer to the end sticking out with a thicker one. With lube, it might still fit in and snugly at that.
If it is indeed fitting as it should, then you could add insurance by way of a velcro or elastic strap around the stock (and either under or over the barrel). Maybe a careful application of tape near that big end could form a cork of sorts to actually jam at the edge of the fill port. Or build up that section with just a bit of silicone sealant. It won't take much--apply some and then wipe the one side with your finger to form the wedge profile and leave the rest.
When I made my port plug, I formed a gob of hot glue around a knot in a small loop of sting to make a plug. The hot glue is resilient enough to be stuffed into the hole and hold fairly firmly. Come to think of it, I wonder is one of those triple mushroom-like ear plugs by E-A-R would do the job....I just tested the fit with one. Looks like if you trim the largest "mushroom" from the stem, what is left might be about perfect. I haven't got a spare to cut-up, otherwise, I'd do one right now. Maybe try a regular foam ear plug?
By the way, my fill probe sticks out that far too.

David,
Thank you for taking time to help me figure this out.
The black plug also have a hole to help thread a string. I am wondering if it was designed to have that plug flush with the stock.
Since this is a brand new rifle, I still have an option to return it.
Do you happen to have a picture of your gun with fill port?

Endo,
I don't have pictures ready, but I can get them tonight. It does look identical to yours though. I'll include pictures of the side and bottom view and some of the probe.

Ok. Here's pictures of my R10 MK2, but note that it isn't an SE. I think the SE changed the internals of the regulator and valve, and maybe the barrel shroud. My port plug got in the photos for free (when it is installed, just the loop of string sticks out). Checking the depth does show the probe is bottoming out in the fill port.
As you can see in the second picture, my action is a little out of alignment, but things still fit.
My fill probe was formerly a threaded one like yours, but I cut it down on a lathe to make the threaded end into a foster connector. (I used the pressure cap that came with my hand pump as a pattern.)

It was either that or buy the adapter. Once the dimensions and angles were figured out and ground on a piece of tool steel I scrounged from some friends, it was a 10 minute job. After I finished it, I discovered that someone already sells a BSA probe just like it.

Endo, just heads up, from watching AEAC's youtube review of this exact air rifle it does appear that the fill probe in his video is proud of the stock/fill-port the same distance as yours is. Don't know if this had been settled yet.

EDIT - It is at 1 minute 42 seconds. FYI

Thanks y’all
Fill probe is functioning fine, it appears the probe was designed to be like this.
