I don't think a CO2 is ideal for this. I don't suggest storing a CO2 gun with a CO2 cartridge in it. Even using Pellgunoil the cartridge will eventuality stick to the seal and tear it. That happened on my Crosman 2400KT. Load up a CO2 cartridge, shoot a rat, and maybe you're done, but you have a full CO2 can in your gun. Either waste that CO2 or store it risking the tearing of the seal. PCP guns are expensive, as you have to have a special pump to fill them, or a special air compressor.
One question we need answered by the original poster . How BIG are the rats you want to get rid of in your area ?

I allways leave the cartradge in the gun. Shooting 1 or 2 pellets a day to keep the HOSP population down. A cartradge will stay in the gun for several weeks up to a moth at a time. No lose of power and so far I have never had one stick.

Hello all,I would like to hear some opinions for a quiet air gun that will only be used for pest control primarily for rats. I need the gun to be as quiet as possible as I do not want to disturb the neighbors. My budget isn’t much I would like to stay around $200 and I am open to a used gun. Please chime in with your opinions I have no idea of what to look for.

You're shooting rats. At best, a couple a day (or evening). I doubt, at this rate of shooting, anyone would even know they were gun shots. Could be anything. If someone witnessed you shooting in your back yard it wouldn't matter how quiet it was. If they are gonna have a problem with it........You may want to take this into consideration when picking your "shoot from" position.I'm going with a pumper.... and when we talk about pumpers the possibilities are endless.... 880 to Sheridan.. pick your poison. One that don't need cocked before pumping would have the advantage of always being charged at the ready. Just cock and insert pellet.
As suggested by several others a 13xx or 22xx platform in 22 cal... You'll be happy.
This has been a really nice thread. I have a friend with a used 2240, and a 1322, I think that I will buy the 2240 from him. The Daisy 880 looks like fun as well. I have a burning desire to eliminate some gophers with one of these.
