Hey guys, I recently purchased a Socom Extreme .177 and I was wondering if i should get a GRTIII trigger put in it and a tune up? has anyone out there purchased the socom extreme and got this done? is it worth $150? did you experience any problems with the gun after the tune up and how long does it take to get it back?

also, what's your opinion on using a 10.5grain pellet in a .177? will it mess up the barrel?

A GRT trigger is always a good investment so do yourself a favor and order that gold trigger right away.
As for a tune...... any gun will benefit from a good tune. You don't have to tune it right away, if you just got it why not just shoot it for awhile and enjoy it. As for the 10.5 grain pellets...... I wouldn't shoot them as a constant, steady diet but using them for hunting and occasional shooting shouldn't damage it.

If it was easy it wouldn't be hunting it would be shopping.

does it have a plastic trigger or a metal trigger? If it has a plastic trigger than it may not take the Grt trigger you may want to talk to someone first before ordering it. i seen over the forum that someone does a tune for new gamo rifles but I can't seem to remember if it was on the new forum or the old forum but check the Gta library. I think that Mr. Shadow is the who is doing them but i'm not for sure ( check with him )

Hello Eric. Congrats on your SOCOM Extreme.Ditto to what Longislandhunter said about the GRT trigger.Well worth the investment. Also like Jeff said shoot the gun and enjoy it. When the spring eventually breaks or if other issues develope send it to forum member Shadow. He's your man for this tune. About them 10.5 gr pellets for this gun. No they won't hurt the barrel in fact this is in my opinion the "pellet of choice" for the power plant in this .177.Anything lighter will tend to send your pellets out super sonic and you don't want that for a couple of reasons. Your gun which is the same as the Hunter Extreme/1250/Hurricane models with the newer synthetic stock will be more accurate all the time with the heavier 10.5gr pellet and will retain greater downrange energy than the lighter pellets. Don't shoot PBA's or lightweight pellets in this gun unless you don't care where the shots land or how long the spring will last.

thanks guys for all of your input. the gun has a metal trigger, i checked with a magnet. how hard is the trigger installation? the new stock has a plastic covering around the trigger that can't be removed. has anyone done a at home trigger installation for the new socom extreme?

Bro, the trigger guard stay's on the stock, remove the front two screw's on forearm an the one at the back of the trigger guard an then you can lift the whole action out of the stock. From there follow the installation that come's with the trigger it should only take a few minute's at best. The Mr.TUNA trigger is the best upgrade you could do for a new gun.Check out the library an you should find a general install for most gun's?

The new plastic triggers would never hold up in the Gamo Extremes. So Gamo has left them alone for now...
As far as a tune goes, yes I would recommend a tune. Ed aka Shadow loves tuning them...
I never did but did come up with very nice mods that would ease the harsh recoil and noise that they make when you shoot them. I passed this tuning information on to Ed. In fact he owns my old Gamo Extreme .22 that I had tuned and tested these mods with. But a normal debur and lube tune is a good idea on these Beasts...
And yes the GRT-III trigger is a must on an Exteme.... IMO
