Off season fun with my 880

Since squirrel season is over here I decided to have a bit of relaxed fun with my newest 880.
It is super accurate with cheap Daisy wadcutters( shoots them better than anything i’ve tried so far)even at pretty long distances.
I set up on my indoor 20 yd. range and shot 1 pump through 8 pumps.
8 was a half inch high of center on a 1 inch dot.
7 was cutting into the bottom of that hole.
6 pumps was just above the center of the dot
5 pumps was center of the dot
4 pumps was just about a 1/4 inch above the bottom of the dot
3 pumps was at the bottom of the dot
2 pumps was 2 1/2” below the dot
1 pump was only 6 1/4” below my 8 pump sight in at the top of the dot
I also shot 5 shot groups on all the different pump levels and accuracy was about the same all the way through except at 1 and 2 pumps, which were actually almost as accurate, but you had to really watch your follow through after the shot..... lag time of the pellet in the bore I suppose.
The other thing I noticed was upward tears in the paper at 1 and 2 pumps as if the pellets were riding nose down a bit at those slow speeds.
3 pumps gave clean holes.
Now I know if just plinking, 5 pumps puts me dead center at 20 yds. And 6 should be good for around 25 yds.
I was shocked at just how well I could group with just 1 pump at 20 yds. from the bench. I just had to really watch my trigger pull and follow through really close.
Great practice for serious target work at 8 pumps.
I kind of related the 1 pump thing at 20 yds. To trying for tight groups at 500 yds. And further with my powder burners.... everything has to be done right at that point!
Anyway, it was a ton of fun and a learning experience for me.
Also just a good excuse to do some shooting lol!

Tom,
Thanks for the kind words sir! I’ve had more fun with these little 880’s over the last year and a half hunting and target shooting than I would ever have imagined.
Like being a kid again at 65....almost 66 years of age lol!
Gotta love it.
