Title: Proxima .177
Post by: Mikeflys on July 12, 2018, 11:28:20 PM
I received my brand new Proxima today! My first impression? Wow is it beautiful! Every review I read or watched on this rifle said the same thing, "it's so heavy". What do I say? not so good IT UP BUTTERCUP! People pay good money to go to a gym and lift heavier weights then this rifle! Hopefully you took that as the humor I meant it to be. The gun is stout, but really not that bad. As for the cocking force, yes they weren't kidding. This thing puts my 470Th to shame. I only had time to run a few patches down the barrel and load up both mags. I can't yet report much on accuracy, I really haven't sighted it in properly. But the shot cycle is real nice. I will reply more when I have a weekend to give it a proper trial. Right now I am very happy!

Ha I forgot this forum won't let you use the word that means "to pull with a vacuum" and substitutes " not so good".

Cool !

Do you have the spring or Vortex version ?

Vortex, I don't think it comes in a spring. Besides I wanted to try a Gas Ram, never owned one before.

Right, comes only with gas ram. My .177 Proxima is my only gas ram. I had a spring and GRT trigger put in my Swarm. I am thinking maybe after the warranty runs out the Proxima might get a spring. It's a cool gun. A keeper.

Ok, cool !

The Hatsan Vortex gasram is great and the Proxima is certainly an appealing airgun. Somekind of modern Theoben SLR8...

So I will watch this topic, also to understand how flawless the magazin works...

The magazine works flawlessly. You can't dry fire with an empty mag. The probe and cocking lever want go forward when the mag. is empty.

I had a chance to take the rifle out again tonight. Same thing as last time, just enough time to shoot both mags. This time I had the scope mounted. My backyard range is right at 25 yards. 6 shots to walk it on target was all it took. I was shooting "Brown Box" Crosman premiums. I am very impressed with the accuracy I was seeing. Everything in a dime size hole. I'm sure it will get better as it breaks in a bit. I am not a real fan of the brown box, I just got a good deal and have a TON of them. I will begin testing other pellets later this week, cant wait.
A few things I have noted.

This rifle is not very backyard friendly. Im not sure which is louder the Proxima or my Diana 470th. Both have a good bark. No chance of putting a moderator on either with that massive front sight!

In the box was a round metal disk with 2 cutouts along the edge. There is nothing in the manual about this. Any idea what it could be for?

I dont get the Anti Beartrap lever, I mean why is it there? With the magazine in place there is nowhere to get your finger stuck. I dont think single loading would be prectical or even doable. So....why? Its not a problem, I am used to using one so its muscle memory for me. Just like the auto saftey. Neither are needed.

The trigger was spot on right out of the box for me, smooth and predictable. I doubt I will ever adjust it.

After watching PA's video review of this gun I was talked into buying a SWAT scope. The reviewer stated that a longer scope would interfrare with the rear sight, unless you take the sight off. I am having a problem with getting proper eye relife with the SWAT scope. I cant get the scope back far enough. I think I will have to get some offset rings. It is usable as it is, I just have to inch up on the scope a little more than is confortable.

I have never had an adjustable cheek piece before. I like it.

I now own 2 Hatsan rifles. My trusty AT44-10QE and my beautiful new Proxima. I have become a Hatsan Junkiie!! As my signature says,  Hatsan Chop!!

The metal disc is to loosen and tighten the screws in the adjustable cheek rest.

My scope doesn't touch the rear sight. I wish they did the front like the Dominator 200 carbine with no open sights.

All the big Hatsan springers/gas rams that come with the weaver type scope rail, Proxima, Dominator, 155, 100x, 135, 125, you need an offset mount unless you got a really long neck.

I've got a Weaver 48377W Tactical One Piece SPR Scope off-set Mount on my Proxima. It's see-thru and is 30mm but has the shims to use scopes with 1 inch tubes. The scope is a Simmons Protarget 30mm tube 3-9X40mm mildot but no AO. Got both at Walmart.

The anti-bear trap also prevent damage to the gun, the probe and if the magazine if it were empty the probe might punch thru it.

The auto trigger safety can probably be disabled.

The gun is similar to my Dominator carbine. The anti-bear trap lever is identical. Where the barrel goes into the receiver is close.

Later, Tim.

So that's what that disk is for! Thanks. I was able to improve the scope placement by using a set of Weaver to Dovetail adaptors I had laying around. Using the Dovetail portion of the guns rail I was able to move the scope back to the rails limit. Still not perfect but much improved.

Not the best picture, but the best I could get in the early morning sun.

Nice. It is interesting to me how the thought process went into the design. The stock, the way the gun works mechanically versus the Gamo Swarm design or the new Benjamin break barrel repeater or my two (RM2000 and RM2800) Mendoza break barrel repeaters. Totally different approaches.

Well that was a dismal failure! The Weaver to Dovetail adaptors would simply not hold the scope still. So I took Lefteyeshot's advice and ordered the mount he recommended. I found it on Ebay for $25.00. I tried to use the open sights but my eyesight is just to poor to pull it off. So my beauty goes back on the rack for the rest of the week.

All I can say right now is....Wow. I put 2 coats of a good quality wax on my new stock, I thought the walnut looked good before. Now she's almost to pretty to shoot almost! I understand the function and usefulness of synthetic stocks. My AT44 has a synth stock. I am wood guy, if the AT44-10QE had been offered in wood I would have grabbed that without hesitation. I see the gun is now offered in Walnut. I might have to look into buying a replacement stock for it!

I'm not a real fan of break barrels. I own one and shoot it often, but one is enough. I don't like he big clunky magazine adaptors on any of the Break barrel repeaters. Nope glad I bought my Proxima.

I agree. It's ugly. Maybe lighter and easier to cock.
