Torque Time! (HW97 stock screws)
jentry:
I've shot my gun loose, and snugged up screws hold only for about 50 shots. I want to install brass cups and other metal pieces before I pull the hardware and put blue Loctite everywhere, but Mac1 is out of stock.
Do I need this hardware? Is there another vendor who makes these products?

The issue with loosening screws can be over tightening the screws to the point that the wood fibers get crushed. If that happens adding thread locker will keep the screws from turning but the softened wood under the screws still allow screw tension to get loose because the wood has been weakened. I bet that if the HW torque specs were followed the stock wood wouldn't get crushed and screws would stay tight. This is assuming that the stock forearm screws are fitted with both flat and lock washers since some HW stocks had only star lock washers between the screw head and stock wood.
Here are the stock tightening specs for HW springers per HW in Germany..........
Front stock screws = 2.5 Nm (22.1 in/lb)
Large trigger guard screw = 5 Nm (44.3 in/lb)
Rear trigger guard screw = 2.5 Nm (22.1 in/lb) however I personally use only 15 in/lbs torque on this rather small 4mm screw.
I prevent stock wood crushing with home turned piloted steel screw cups and a steel sleeve for the large front trigger guard screw. These mods provide "metal to metal contact" so the stock wood won't get crushed regardless of the screw torque..........

NCED, this is all your fault! Had I not found your thread earlier this week, I would already be done with this job. I really like your pictures and the inserted post on the trigger guard, but I know these parts aren't needed to make things right.
Time to work on the gun and befriend a machinist.
TwiceHorn:
How new is your rifle? My 97 shoots pretty soft (745 with 8.4-8.6 .177 pellets) and has about 1500 down the tube and the stock screws don't work loose very often. Trigger guard still does, though.
Hoosier Daddy:
Maybe try your local Hobby Shop, they will have a rack of "K-S Hobby and Craft Metal Tubing".. guaranteed.
You will find some brass tubing that will fit the holes nicely and you can double it up with the next smaller size to increase the wall thickness if needed.
