Crosman 362 and 3622 comparison

(1/13) > >>

Blowpipe Sam:
I have tuned and hunted with a Crosman model 362 for over a year now and I have found it to be a powerful, accurate and very effective hunting gun.  On a whim I recently purchased a Crosman model 3622 and I’ve just spent an afternoon getting to know it.  That brief experience was enough to tell me this particular 3622 is just as good a gun as my original 362. So I have to do a shoot off!  The 3622 is presently bone stock and will stay that way until. I have run a comprehensive chronograph test. Once I have some good base line numbers I’ll start fiddling with the adjuster, adding a steel breech and doing the ice maker mod.

Struckat:
This will be good to follow.

I never was satisfied with my 362, but my #2 son uses it as a crow gun. He likes it.
With a house full of Prodish guns, the 3622 caught my eye, but I resist…

Blowpipe Sam:
I took the C3622 out to a sand quarry in the national forest where I can shoot out to 200 yards if I like.  I pumped it up to 2.000 psi last night and it does not appear to have leaked.  The Crosman intermounts of course required re-zeroing of the scope at the slightest bump but since this gun is a PCP the intermounts worked well enough to test for accuracy.  And the accuracy results are excellent!  The gun shot well with every pellet I tried through it.  I shot sixty or so pellets varying from 14.3gr CPHP to H&N FTT, Crosman Piranhas, 15.6gr Norma GTFT, and Ruger 17gr Superpoints.
I haven't touched the hammer spring adjuster and I assume it is at its factory setting.  Starting from a 2,000 psi fill thirty shots brings the reservoir down to 800 psi.  It takes 34-5 pumps to bring the reservoir back up to 2,000 psi.
The first shot string I chronographed ran as follows: 14.3gr CPHP starting at 2,000 psi.
1.   661 fps/ 13.58 fpe
2.   648 fps/ 13.06 fpe
3.   644 fps/ 12.89 fpe
4.   653 fps/ 13.26 fpe
5.   651 fps/ 13.18 fpe
6.   655 fps/ 13.34 fpe
7.   663 fps/  13.67 fpe
8.   668 fps/  13.87 fpe
9.   669 fps/  13.92 fpe
10. 673 fps/  14.08 fpe
11. 679 fps/  14.33 fpe
12. 681 fps/  14.42 fpe
13. 686 fps/  14.63 fpe
14. 686 fps/  14.63 fpe
15. 691 fps/  14.85 fpe
16. 690 fps/  14.80 fpe
17. 692 fps/  14.89 fpe
18. 690 fps/  14.80 fpe
19. 696 fps/  15.06 fpe
20. 699 fps/  15.19 fpe
21. 697 fps/  15.10 fpe
22. 699 fps/  15.19 fpe
23. 698 fps/  15.15 fpe
24. 699 fps/  15.19 fpe
25. 692 fps/  14.89 fpe
26. 694 fps/  14.97 fpe
27. 690 fps/  14.80 fpe
28. 687 fps/  14.67 fpe
29. 680 fps/  14.38 fpe
30. 677 fps/  14.25 fpe
31. 669 fps/  13.92 fpe
32. 663 fps/  13.67 fpe
33. 656 fps/  13.38 fpe
34. 649 fps/  13.06 fpe
35. 641 fps/  12.77 fpe

That's a pretty dramatic curve. I want to flatten that quite a bit.  I'd like to see maximum velocities around 670 fps and a longer sweet spot

Blowpipe Sam:
Today.

Back_Roads:
To flatten the curve we just fill to about your shot 9 pressure and shoot to shot 31, and stop shooting after shot 31 on your crony results, yes less shots but the most powerful and accurate ones.
I have been filling to 1800 and that seems to be a good starting pressure.
