my buddy gave me a brand new never fired crossman 760 air rifle, i tried to pump it, it is almost impossible to pump, very hard even on the first pump, if i struggle to get a few pumps when i pull the trigger no air comes out of the barrel, where do i start, hope i can do this myself without sending the gun back, he got it for a present 10yrs ago, been laying since

Sounds like valve lock - Could be it was OVER pumped during all this time
You need open up gun to knock open the valve or others here may have an idea

I have old 760s from the 1970s-80s that still shoot well. They have the old style brass valves.
Could be it already has too high pressure and is "valve locked" but...
I'm betting that the 10 year old model has the aluminum valve. I'm also betting that after 10 years of no use, no oil, and probably in a high humidity location the aluminum valve is severely corroded. The inlet check-valve isn't opening causing the high cocking force. If I'm correct the valve "might " be repairable but I doubt it. A new valve can purchased from Crosman parts.
At the very least you will probably need to open it up to inspect the condition of the internal parts. Mine are 40-50 years old and the design has changed so I'm not an expert on the newer models. Maybe this will be useful?

looks like it was over cocked, i took it apart, unscrewed the valve body and a sudden blast of air came out, i cleaned it up and lube assembled it seems fine, so the way it looks if over pumped the plunger cannot over come the excessive pressure when striking the pin
