Title: My big 5 sporting goods crosman experience lol
Post by: gamoshooter on December 24, 2016, 04:57:15 PM
Hit my local big 5 last minute to get my son a 1322 pump pistol that he has been wanting
All the wal marts near me were already raided of them so big 5 was my last resort but I called ahead to check stock before running all the way across town for nothing lol

Walked in and headed to the gun counter and waited for thier gun associate to give me a hand

Told him I needed to get a crosman American Classic pistol in .22  the one on the wall next to the
Air soft pistol
He said ok sure let me get it for you so he gets the step stool grabs the gun off the wall and says this one right ??  I say yes that's it and he then proceeds to ask me  do you need any c02 with that or are you good ??
What ?? Did u really just ask me that lol  I really didnt know what to say at that point so I just said
It's a pump gun so I think I'm good
The gun associate got real quiet for a few seconds and said ok is this all u need
Yes after that experience that's all I need  ;D ;D
He walked it up to the counter and set it down for the cashier to ring up and when I got up there
She asked if the pistol was mine and after I said yes she proceeded to ask me
Did u need any bb s with that ??
Wth really ?? u didn't really just ask me that did you ??
I just politely told her no thanks paid for my c02 powered .22 American Classic BB gun and walked out
I don't know wth the deal is but seems like anywhere I go around here to buy anything air gun related
I cannot find anyone who even knows the basics
All any of them know is the price they don't even know what ammo thier guns shoot
I guess I'm just kinda amazed that a gun counter associate that works around several shelves full of air rifles and pistols every single day doesn't know anything about them other than how much they cost

Hopefully all the California big 5 stores are not like that
If so we're in trouble
Happy holidays everyone

Glad to hear you have plenty of CO2 and BBs at home ;D

Aren't they pretty well labeled?

The key word in your post that explains why everything happened the way it did is "California"!

That's funny, I have had very similar experiences myself. The Big5 I go to here in CA is great, the same guy I deal with all the time and he knows all about the products they sell. He knows me well enough that he sometimes will hold things aside that he knows I would like. Just bought two guns yesterday as gifts and was able to get 20 % off as they were on sale.

Go easy on the CA bashing. We still remember that 2000 Presidential election snafu you FL guys had....

I got no problems with the big 5's here in NorCal ( I am surrounded by farms and orchards though ) maybe it's just a socal thing as that's where all the Hollywood Beverly Hills types live 😉
I got my 1377 at big 5 and the only problem was the not so spectacular price compared to Walmart.
I get my .20's from big 5 and they always know exactly what pellets I'm talking about.

Just consider the source.  They're everywhere.  I went to a Home Depot once to get tires, not the assembled wheel (tire and rim), for my lawn tractor.  They had tires but not that size on the shelf so I asked if they had any in the back needing to go on the shelf.  The guy asked me again what I wanted and he said (not joking here) "so you only need half a tire?"  I answered "how would that work?" and left.

Yep - when asked "Can I help you?", I generally respond "No thanks".   Even though I have retina disease I would rather just find it myself.

Newly hired Holiday help?   I don't mind ignorance on a subject so long as they are nice about it.  Even I don't know everything ;D

Exactly what I think. They are trying to upsell, and if 1 in 10 customers bite? And those online surveys the cashier wants you to fill out saying how well of a job the cashier did.

The cashier is totally lied to, it has nothing to do with how well of a job they do, rather the point is to get and sell the customers data for further marketing.

Poor snowflakes. They believed the lies they were told in their classrooms, "If you get a college education...."

Yep, Not their fault-especially if they have no idea they are ignorant. "The two hardest things are to teach a man to think, and for him to order his actions according to importance." Walt Henrichsen

This is the reason I just bought my 1322's off of Amazon ($38.40) ... I don't have to deal with the stupidity of the California sales person ..... I can hardly wait to get out of here !!!!

A customer asks the clerk behind the sporting goods counter... "I have a bird feeder within ten feet of the back step, what can i use to get rid of the squirrels, hosps"?

Counter guy is trying to sell him the most powerful, expensive break barrel he has on the shelf. Something like 1500 fps.

Wallyworld in N.H.

He went to look for his wife.
I clued him in.   He got an 880.   ::)
