I was surfing last night (bad habit) and at Airguns of Arizona came across the Diana 340 N-Tec Classic for $279. This is the gas strut version of the venerable Diana 34. If you want a German Diana 34 and a gas strut power plant in the same package, here's your chance.

Thomas,
Do you know anything about this "modified" T06 trigger in this rifle? I have read about a few people saying they were not the same as the T06 in a regular 34. The one in my 34P was perfect right out of the box and from what I've read this is not necessarily the case on the 340. A lot of stories of people having to play around with the adjustments quite a bit to get something decent, even someone saying he had to replace the grub screws with longer ones to get it adjusted.

The T06 in the NTEC cannot be the same as the regular T06. The coil spring powered Diana has a latching rod in the center of the piston which goes into the trigger package behind it. Because that space is now occupied by the gas ram the NTEC has a side latching piston like so many other guns. This required Diana to make some modifications to the trigger so it is similar to a T06 but not quite the same even though externally it may look the same. I too have read one negative review on the trigger but it honestly doesn't make sense to me. The individual used LONGER screws to get a stiffer trigger and a longer pull. In every other trigger I've seen you may use longer screws to achieve a shorter pull. For safety's sake it does not make sense to me that Diana would ship a gun with as easy a trigger as that writer suggested - unless it was a factory defect. I have only seen that one negative review of the trigger.

I have an n-tec 340 but not a 34 so can't compare them directly. but the 340 trigger is excellent. mine breaks cleanly and reliably at 20 oz, everytime. Very soft first stage and a clean break at the 2nd stage. Never bump fires and it's still my most accurate break barrel, largely because of the excellent trigger. But again, I don't have a 34 to compare it to.

8.6 pounds for the rifle alone? Is that correct?

Here's a pic I just took of mine hanging from a handheld luggage weigher and it weighs 8.4 lbs including a UTG 3-12x44 scope with caps on and with a Bullseye ZR Mount. Hope that helps. I've calibrated the luggage weigher from 1 lb up to 25 lbs.

OK, so it's probably more like 7.25 pounds for the rifle alone. Thanks!

RBQ- I just looked it up: the utg 3-12x44 scope comes in at 658 grams (without caps) and the ZR mount is 215 grams. That's 873 grams, which is 30.8 ounces, or just under 2 lbs. So that puts the weight of the n-tec 340 at around 6.5 lbs for just the gun.
Not sure why PA advertises the weight at 8.6 lbs. I did remove the rear site since I mounted the scope - but that thing is light. Strange. Maybe I should weigh it again.

That does seem light. I'd think a gun like that would weigh around 7.5 pounds without a scope.

okay I measured it again - this time hanging it from right above the center of mass so the gun was horizontal when lifted. Earlier I had run the hanging strap through the trigger guard and the muzzle was pointing almost straight down. The gun with scope/caps/ZRmount weights 9.2 lbs. So without the 31 oz of scope/caps/mount, it would come in at 7lbs 4.4 oz, or about 7 1/4 lbs. That's more like it. Like I said, I have removed the rear and front sights so probably brings it up to 7.5 lbs with those on there. Anyway, it's definitely not 8.6 lbs out of the box.
