Just got my 1st Big bore

(1/2) > >>

 Hello everyone:
I just ordered 2 Sam Yang 909s in .45 from PA, together with a thousand round of Hornady round balls n 500 rounds of venturi round nose 200grain.
These 909s have one duty only ............Boars!!!!
I bought these for a hunting / spear fishing trip to the southeast Asia in about 2 weeks time.
Now, I know I don't have the chance to send these 909s to Wil for a power tune, as the turn around tuning time will require 3 weeks now , so that will have to wait til I finish the trip.
Now , I need to ask for help from experts here about the steps n tool, wrenches etc. that's required to break these 909s into its basic parts?
Mainly into a.) barrel b.) air tank c.) breech d.) fore grip n butt e.) trigger group
Needed all these troubles as I will fly all my kits over ahead of myself.
I had asked PY nicely for help about this , like any diagrams etc
PY said........Nop, Sorry! Ur on Ur own!
I thought......don't they expect the rifle owner may need this diagram to perform annual maintainance ?
My friends at the resort told me last nite, groups of 8 to 12 boars were roaring right next to their location within 50m everynite!
Hope to post pics with these boars ASAP!
My other Korean pcp is a rainstorm .
Thx for any help in advance!!!
I had been with PB since I had served with the Army for six yrs in the 90' s.
After learning loads from u lot in the very helpful forum, I had decided to get these 909s for this trip, I will most likely leave these rifles at the location for future visit.
My goal is to get the .45 Ranger but the ordering wait can't be helpful for this up coming trip. :o

Welcome to the GTA Simonwg905!!

OK I am hearing more and more requests for teardown instructions for the 909 guns online, so I will light a fire under my rear and tear my 909 down on video ASAP.  It's really quite easy once you've done it a time or two.

Until then, here is a link that should help.

If those PA slugs are the straight walled ones, I hope they work better for you than they do for most.....roundballs are OK, but the EPP/UG's are a must-order (and probably cheaper, too).

Have you bought a scope yet?  Be mindful of the clearance of the rear sight when selecting your scope......I suggest a compact-style scope with an objective lens no larger than 38mm, maybe 40mm MAX to help with clearance unless you are willing to jack the scope height up pretty high like mine.  Or you could shave the rear sight housing down like Nomadic did with his (pretty sharp!).

The Eotech site works great for that application as well.

Thankyou very much ! Butcher45 for helping me out!
I have a few Close range holopoint sights already from my varies ARs  both Aimpoint n Eotech . I will consider mounting these once I can confirm the actual killing range once I got there...........but from what my buddies over the resort had told me last nite, I believe these will be good choice!
Since Ur using Eotech on Ur set up, u must be a good stalker...........getting real close n things get real personal...........hehehe!
I love long range shooting / sniping but when I need to put food on table, getting up close n personal with my targets are a must............very much like ambush Ur enemies............max fire power for max enemies kills!!! That's why I always set up another shooter with me , to cut off the targets on their escape route , as my insurance.
Ha, enough talk about killing off two legged targets, we never take joy in taking out our targets but no sorrow either, period!
I had learnt from u lots that the rear sight will stop me from getting my optical telescope as close to the bore axis as possible. I believe once I can take it off the rifle, I will mill it flat.
As its not a battle rifle nor a self defense one, I really don't need these as back up .
Scope wise, I will most likely put on those under the $1000 mark, call me old school, I only use Leupold on my other sniper rifles, those Nightforce n US optic are real nice but Imstick with Leupold.
May I ask how can I attach a pic with my post, I from stone age, so not so good with computer, hate using IPad to get on this forum, as I am on my shift duty now......HEHEHE
THX for all the help , again!!!!
PS what's wrong with those Venturi .45 200 grains round nose?
I ordered 10 boxes of this, if it's no good, I will return them ASAP but can u point me where can I order those that u recommended!

Seen many a new 909 owner go out and buy a scope for their 909, come home to install it, and say "Awe SHUCKS!" LOL!

The Eotech was mounted on a friends 909.  He bought some picattiny (sp?) railing, and fashioned some mounts for our 909 guns.

When we went out to get his 909 dialed in, I shot it a bit and was very impressed with the abilitys of that Eotech site.  Jerry Boyenga bought one with two aimpoints for use on his huge-bore Barnes rifle out to I believe 150+yards, and seems pretty happy with it.  So I don't believe the 1Xmagnification with a dot will affect the range you can shoot larger critters with it much if at all.

One thing I really like about those Eotech sites, is that my friend and I took turns shooting the same target one shot at a time, and still got tight groups.  It never mattered what position I had my head in....if the dot was on the target the boolit hit the target.  I could have held the rifle upside-down and it still would hit where the dot was.  I could put the dot in the corner of the display, as it covered the target, and it would still hit where the dot covered.  ZERO PARALLAX no matter how hard I tried to make it not work!  At 25, and 50 yards (typical bigbore airgunning ranges), it shot these groups with the EPP/UG's.

25 yards with the Eotech with rifle rested on the hood of the truck

50 yards with the Eotech

Nothing wrong witha Leupold scope.....you'll never have to buy another scope after getting one of those.  Sterling warranty, and customer service right there.

As far as getting the scope as close to the bore as possible.....I can see how that would be useful for shooting at 300+yards with a PB (powder burner), but for the ranges we shoot critters at with our bigbore airguns I actually prefer a high site height to maximize both close-range precision, and MPBR.  It also allows me to hold my head in a more natural position when lining my eye up to the scope with the current combed stock the 909 guns use (the open sites are about impossible to line-up on).  The stocks on some of the older 909 guns that lack the combs are much better suited for open sites (still a bit awkward, though).

Play with the site height on this ballistic calculator http://www.handloads.com/calc/index.html and see what difference an extra inch of site height makes when it comes to close-range precision.  Site height for a 909 using high mounts is about 1.65 inches....with the risers I am using currently I have a site height of 2.25 inches.  Quite a difference.  I suggest a 40 yard zero for 200fpe .45 rifles, and a 50 yard zero for the more powerful rifles.

Bookmark that calculator...it has been an invaluable tool for me when comparing one load to another, establishing aimpoints at various ranges, etc.

Photobucket is indeed the way to go for picture posting.
