Is there anything you can do to reverse the grips breaking down? Something like armor-all or stuff to
refresh plastics. Some guys use plastic spray shine. I don t but maybe I should be treating my plastic grips?

Bantam5: I never noticed the smell of the pistol's grips, but I know what you mean, I had old army packs with plastic lining that smelled like vomit. I took a tooth brush to the grips and all the white stuff came off, it comes back when it gets stored for a while. My pistols are actually 79Gs, in .177. About the accuracy, when the guns leaked gas, groups were 3" at 25 feet. After fixing the leaks, groups came down to about 1/2" . There is also that screw on top of the barrel housing that needs to be set correctly to help tighten the barrel to valve seal at the transfer port.

I don't believe so.
I'm not 100% positive what the grips are made of, but that white powdery buildup and puke smell makes me think Butyl Acetate which can't be resolved.
Based on the low strengrh of smell and amount of white buildup I've experienced I believe the butyl acetate used for these grips is far more stable than the old Craftsman screwdriver handles and is breaking down at an extremely slow rate.
I would not be surprised if it takes another 50-60 years for any significant effects are apparent.

Try Penatrol https://www.flood.com/products/paint-additives/penetrol-oil-based-paint-additive. This stuff works awesome turning old faded out Jeep black plastic fender flares looking like new and it lasts a long time. Just wipe it on with a rag like you would amour all. Any faded black plastic will look like new. Not effected by water and won’t wash off like amour all.
