All I can really say is that after we finished laughing is I never dropped my axe.
That was worse than my little hiccup. All ended up good though. Query. This is the second post in a couple of days where chaps from GTA have been out doing activities and both have carried side arms "of a different flavour."Why do you do it or need to do it?Apart from the fact that we are not allowed pistols it seems strange to me. We don't go foraging in the trees with a gun for such activities as collecting pine cones or brush clearing.
Top reason in my mind (that still has me on the fence about taking up the practice myself); is dogs...
I've only had 1 dog attempt to attack me.I only had a Gerber Dagger and it didn't end well for the ex-dog.

I don't carry a PB side Arm. I do carry the Gerber Boot/belt Daggers. One on each hip carried handle down. Very quick to draw in a fighting hold.
Trespass here is just not on but it does happen. The only dangerous/poisonous things are Katipo spiders and white tail spiders and their bite can be fatal They are very rare . A wild stag or a wild bull could be dangerous if cornered. Our stags in the roar are aggressive but bulls like Heraford or Aberdeen Angus are just huge keep clear huge otherwise nothing more dangerous than a human in a car or full of grog.Vagrants really keeps to the cities, usually central city .In my youth we had a chap who walked the roads in the central north island . He was called Russian Jack . Never welcome but always respected He would call at a country house and his have his tea Billy filled and be given the left over roast of lamb and food . He would ask if he could sleep in the woodshed and be gone in the morning Sometimes he would ask for work if he needed a new pair of boots. Not noted to be a good worker. There was an old slab whare near Ohingaiti and you could tell if he was there because there would be smoke from the corrugated iron chimney . In our village I have permission to rabbit on the land that I do . We are stricken with rabbits and people see me and ask how many I have shot Some even say I am doing a community service .
