Seneca Dragonfly 2 Peep Sight?
«
on:

Is anyone using a Williams peep sight of any kind on the Seneca Dragonfly 2 and what if any changes
have you made to the front sight to make them work?
I have used the Williams WGRS-54 on several of my rifles and would like to see what others are using on
the Seneca Dragonfly 2.
Thanks

I mounted a scope & had to remove the rear sight. My eyes arent what they used to be, and I shoot this gun 30-50yards and need the magnification.

I thought that others were using peep sights on the Seneca Dragonfly Mk2 and I would get to see how they were making them work.
Must not be many using peep sights.
Thanks anyway

If anyone has found a peep sight that fits the Dragonfly I'd be interested.
I'm a fan of the Williams/Lyman stype peep sights but usually they require upgrading to a taller front post.
But if there's a rear peep that works with the stock front sight post, I'm in.
I've recently been digging for old posts on the Dragonfly mk II but I've not seen anyone running a rear peep on one.

I've got a Skinner peep lying around that I took off a Browning Bl-22. It clamps to the 3/8" dovetail groove. I'll try it on the Dragonfly when I get it in a few days.
Imagine it will require a taller front sight though, as it is a top mounted peep. The side mounting of the Williams and Lyman sights puts them lower and usually doesn't require a taller front sight.
I have a Williams on my Sheridan and the factory front sight height is fine.

There's a thread on Air Gun Warrior's forum with a pic of a Dragonfly II with a Williams -54 peep and what was described as a 4mm riser from Champions Choice, which required some filing to fit.
Surprised an aftermarket peep sight needed a riser at all, usually just adding a rear peep requires a taller front.
But I can't tell if the Williams WGRS-54 is for an 11mm rail, most reviews on Amazon said it required filing to fit so is it spec'd for 11mm and can be filed out to 3/8" dovetail?

After doing some looking the Williams FP-AG is a MUCH better sight for $35 more, with click adjust knobs for both axis.
Reviews did confirm it fits 11mm rail and was mounted on severail air guns (Diana RWS 460, HW30 & HW95).

Good to know about the FP- AG. I got my Dragonfly a couple hours ago and for now will put the 3-12x Bugbuster on it.
It is a pretty short scope so doesn't look huge on the gun, like one YouTube guy that had a long 6-24x scope with cantilever front mount on the DFMk2.
The Bugbuster is almost short enough without the sunshade to be able to hold the gun ahead of the scope, right near the hand doing the pumping.
Mine is stiff to pump, the last bit of opening when that link goes forward to the end of the tube.
I lubed each of the joints along with a drop on either side of the tube where that link travels and after pumping it a few dozen times (not all at once) it is getting better. I pumped 3 or 4 times, then dry fired.
It's dark out now, and I want to remove the barrel and clean it well, then tomorrow afternoon when I get home, zero the scope and test my selection of .22 pellets.

Yes, forgot to mention mine is also a bit harder to open on that last bit of travel, when you can hear it draw air. It got better with use and I've not lubed mine yet.
I can see why some don't like the Dragonfly pump action. It does require a wider range of movement, but to me the trade off is the advantage of mechanical leverage.
Not many choices for a pumper that can take multishot mags, this still seems like a good one.

Got my Dragonfly Mk2 last week and I borrowed the 3-12x Bugbuster from the Stormrider to do some accuracy testing with the 8 different pellet types I have on hand.
Pleased that the cheapie Crosman HP shot decent, about the same size groups with the CPHP out of the Stormrider.
The JSB Exact RS was the best, and several others would have been good but for one flyer each.
The non adjustable trigger of the DFMk2 makes tight groups a bit more challenging, but the trigger isn't too bad at all.
5 shot groups at 13 1/2 yards, 40 feet.
I didn't shoot the last group with the GAMO Rocket. I had loaded the first pellet of the 5 shot string, and got a click when I pulled the trigger.
I thought, O.K., maybe I forgot to pump it. So I recocked the gun and pumped it up 8 times, tried again and got another click.
I hadn't heard air rushing out with each pump like you would if you started pumping but forgot to cock it first.
When I tried to pump it again (making sure it was cocked first) it seemed like there was no resistance to the pump handle, it was way too easy.
I went into the shop, drove out the chambered pellet, cocked the gun and pumped it 3 or 4 times it was working fine.
Weird.
So wanderson, here's the answer to your question. I slid the Skinner peep onto the Dragonfly and it fits fine. It was dark out by the time I got around to it, but I'll shoot later today trying out the peep on the DFMk2. The factory front F/O sight looks almost tall enough, just judging by all the taller sights I've had to put on lever rifles after installing a peep sight.

I have 400-500isp pellets thru mine, and tried 6 different pellets. Crosman Premier H.P. wins, with RWS Superdomes a close second.

It's great when you have a gun (or several) that will shoot the Crosmans well. They are $6.35 a tin on Amazon and $6.85 a tin at Walmart, .22 caliber anyway.
The Skinner peep was able to zero, after cranking it up 3 full turns and drifting it left a bit. The factory F/O sight ended up being too tall instead of too short. And man is it thick. The F/O sight just about blotted out my whole target.
Really hard to do anything approaching precision with the front sight.
And the stock is set up more for a scope. Using the irons wasn't too uncomfortable, but it was a slight head scrunch to use them.
A friend just gave me an older Konus Pro 4 x32 that I just mounted on the Dragonfly. Seems like good glass, was intended for .22 rimfire (50 yards maybe) so I'll "keep an eye out" for parallax issues. The Konus is short, as short as the Bugbuster I have, and the Konus has good eye relief, almost too good. I'd have liked the scope 3/4" or so forward but that put the turret housing in the way of the magazine.
Not a whole lot of extra room, but enough.
I also tried the moderator that came on the Stormrider. I was surprised how much it quieted the bark of the Dragonfly. 8 to 10 pumps sounded more like 3 or 4 pumps. That cheap moderator is probably better suited on a 15fpe rifle like the dragonfly than the 26 fpe Stormrider, so I might leave it on there and get a better one for the Stormrider instead.
It looks like I could remove a chamber or two and make it not so long, and it would probably still be effective on the DFMk2.

Thanks sandog1 on the feedback on the Skinner peep.
I was wondering how that FO front would work with a peep. You answered my question.
I first tried mounting a Bushnell scope on my Dragonfly with some hise rise rings but didn't like the scope position.
But decided to pull the rear notch sight and use a 1 piece med. height mount behing the magazine and that was perfect.
You're right, for me the stock comb is perfect for a scope.
I may still try a peep on my Diana Chaser, it has a slim front sight that would be suited for a peep.

I ordered a pair of Sportsmatch medium rings from AoA that will put the Konus 4x about 3/16' higher than the low no-name rings I am now using.
Then I'll be able to move the scope forward where I wanted it and still clear a magazine.
The Konus has such good eye relief that I need it 4-5 inches from my eye instead of the normal 3-4 inches.
