The credit card trigger mod and barrel tape mod would be at the top of my list to improve accuracy if cleaning isn't helpful. How many pumps are you using? My 901 shoots 7 grain pellets best at 5 pumps.

Maybe I should try it anyway and see how it does. Now I've got a good day of at least a couple of hundred rounds of shooting without wind so now I can say for sure it's not just the wind like I initially thought so now I'll go ahead with working on the trigger. Are we shooting at various numbers of pumps from 4 to 8.

I don't own an 880 but as far as I know most people still suggest doing the tape mod. https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=161939.0#msg155804181

They come ‘dirty’ from the factory with machining/preservative gunk. When I got it I ran 4 dry patches down the bore followed by 2 soaked with pellgun oil and two more dry ones. Should I use something more serious? I ordered a patch worm so that should help me get it cleaner.

Did you allow the wet patches time to soak, ie let the solvent in the Pellgunoil break down the gunk? If yes, you should be good.
Take a look at this one too. I know several people who have it and say it's great. It's a good size for a 880 too. Winchester by Daisy Outdoor Products 2-7 x 32 AO Winchester Scope (Black, 2-7 x 32) https://a.co/d/ef4BpON
Winchester by Daisy Outdoor Products 4 x 32 AO Winchester Scope (Black, 4 x 32) https://a.co/d/13dhqWWUnfortunately this one is more expensive than the variable power right now. It's still a good scope though.
I follow this channel and Travis really likes the Winchester 4x.

It's still a good scope though. If it would last a lot longer and require less frequent adjustments I would be happy even paying more for it. Between me and my brother-in-law we will be trying out a few scopes in the next few months so I will add that one to the list.

For around $80 you can find a few that really hold up to the abuse of a springer and have good features.
