New Old Homemade Grip Cap

So I’ve been messing around with this old Asian Diana militia style copy rifle and it’s missing it’s grip cap. It just looks unfinished and been nothing me, so I decided to make a replacement. I found some photos on line of rifles that this one mostly resembles which is a FLZ and they had metal grip caps. So I chose a spoon to make it from which mostly resembled the the shape and curve of the original. It took a bit of hammering, grinding, filling and trial fitting to get it fitted. Finally drilled a screw hole and used a counter bore bit and punch to make the recess. In order to match the 80 plus years of rusty plum colored patina I heated the finished cap with a torch and then submersed it into wetted old coffee grounds. I repeated this process several times to achieve the final result. I think it’s remarkable how close it appears to the original patina. I just need to find a slotted screw instead of the Phillips which is all I had.

Dayumn! That's a great job! I admire your ability to put something like that together.
I take it you didn't use decaf?
Stay safe,
J~

Haha, Thanks. The spoon was stainless so I had to use full strength, extra dark, bold, lol.
