What we need are some chamber cast to see and measure.
The Cerosafe can be ordered from Brownells or generically from Rotometals.
I had an ingot but loaned it out and haven't got it back yet (increasingly doubtful I will though).
That takes all the guesswork out of it.
As I've mentioned before, piloted throating reamers are available for rental (usually through your local gunsmith) and 'you' can use a T-handle to GENTLY hand ream in a few thousands. Yes, chucking the barrel up in a lathe and putting the reamer in the tailstock chuck works better to keep misalignment down but we never powered the cut and just turned the lathe chuck with a chuck key as we fed in the tailstock... with lots of lubricant and frequent blowing out the chips.
Different throat profiles are available so my question is: just what IS the best slug chamber?

You can make a generalized chamber that will fit a variety of bullets.... but it won't fit all, for some it will be too long or too short, depending on the nose profile and the length of the bullet.... The reamers I make for my own use, are groove diameter plus 0.001" for the parallel section, and the leade is tapered at 1 deg. per side ahead of that.... I try and cut the chamber depth so that the longest bullet I intend to shoot is pushed quite hard into the leade, but not so hard that you can't push it home with the bolt handle.... and the shortest bullet I want to use at least touches the leade enough to make a mark in it and center the nose to prevent the bullet loading crooked....
While it is certainly possible to hone or ream the chamber on a Texan to allow bullets to be inserted further into the barrel with a push of the thumb.... there would be no standardization of such a "home grown" solution.... What I am trying to do here is to come up with a bullet design that will function in a stock Texan, and therefore not require work on the barrel.... From the photos I have seen, it appears that the Texans do have a slight, short leade angle, what they lack is the longer parallel chamber that allows the bullets to be inserted flush, or at least close to flush, with the breech end of the bore.... I still think that Carl's solution of reducing the nose diameter to slightly larger than the lands, so that it can fully enter the bore, past the leade, with minimal effort.... and then have only the driving band the full groove diameter, so that can be pushed in until it stops somewhere on the leade…. Sizing such a bullet design would allow you to customize the seating depth, and experiment with the accuracy, while the smaller nose portion is "partially bore-riding" but still lightly engaged by the rifling....

I am already working on a bullet design for each caliber for the Texan with a nose diameter that is 0.002" over the nominal land diameter.... This should allow you to push the bullet in all the way until the single, rear driving band hits the leade…. Assuming the chambers are all of similar depth, that should mean the base of the bullet should load approximately flush with the end of the barrel.... and not sit out in the loading tray like a lot of bullets do now.... The idea is to insure that the bullet is started straight in the bore on loading, and not tilt on firing....
Any opinion on if I should make the driving band equal to the nominal groove diameter (0.257", 0.308". 0.357" and 0.457")…. or 0.001" larger to allow for sizing?.... I have currently drawn the nominal groove size, the downside to making it larger is that sizing may be required.... I am planning on a short GC style base so that any damage from the sprue plate cutoff will not affect the release point of the driving band from the muzzle crown....
Bob
PS, they look REALLY nice....

+ on allow enough to size.
But not like .xx9 or .x60 which I have had distort from sizing down too much.
And face it, even the best companies molds sometimes throw slightly out of round, allowing some leeway sizing for truing and that some barrels like .001 over, some bore size and some .001 under... so .358
FYI - this is a slug for my Texan that Bob designed for me
http://www.accuratemolds.com/bullet_detail.php?bullet=46-364B-D.png
then I had it sent to
http://www.hollowpointmold.com/
and it casts 332gr and chambers and shoots well but might still be 30gr too heavy for me
And this one is also somewhat bore riding and sized to .357, chambers and shoots well in the .357 Texan and Pitbull
http://www.accuratemolds.com/bullet_detail.php?bullet=36-168J-D.png
, also sent to hollowpointmold and casts 154gr
