Hey,I know I haven't posted for a while, but did you forget my .357?Give me a ring (or text). Yes you can get 200fpe with the right porting.Joe
Something else to consider- if I'm able to get a TJ barrel in .357, at 14mm (slightly bigger than .5"), wouldn't it be too thin to thread the muzzle? If not, great! If so, what to do? A "slip on" adapter? Should it go over the CF sleeve? Should I leave that section of the barrel un-sleeved? Thoughts?
The ports in a Cothran valve are 0.257".... One problem in .357 is that by the time you turn the breech end down to 1/2" OD to fit between the 4-40 screws in the MRod receiver.... there isn't much wall thickness left for a transfer port flat on the barrel.... In addition, you need to beef up the bolt lockup lug in the MRod bolt to handle the increased force from the pressure in the barrel pushing on the larger area of the bigger bolt nose.... Again, check Lloyd's thread for that information.... Safety First !!!Bob
No oblong port needed in a .357 until you reach about 9/32" or 7 mm (0.285" = 80%).... and you can get that size port inside a 3/8" OD transfer port with no problem.... If you are staying with the 0.257" exhaust port in the Cothran, you could even reduce the transfer port OD to 11/32" (or 9 mm), which will give you more room for the flat.... Alternately, Travis says you don't need to seal the TP to the barrel at all, just seal it against the receiver, and let the setscrew above the TP push the barrel down against the receiver to seal it, metal to metal.... On my .357, I sealed it metal to metal. No leaks.
