I ordered a .5oz tube of Krytox Grease off Amazon. Best price was $18 to $20 bucks... for a 1/2 oz tube? Why is this stuff so expensive and is there a 'cheaper' source?ps; I realize that a .5 oz tube is like a lifetime supply but good grief!
Because it is produced from the sebaceous glands of jolly little trolls who were hydrated solely by unicorn tears. It is so lubricious that if you spill it on the floor, you will be trapped there until you can be airlifted away, and it is so thermally stable that it will not burn at the epicenter of a nuclear explosion. It is so good, I don’t know how we are able to purchase it.
Funny you should mention that Peter.I have worked with a wide variety of Hydraulic fluids all of my 45 year automotive / industrial working carrier. The mil-spec hyd. oil used on my F4 Fighter Jet (looked like ATF) was the ONLY one that ever irritated my skin.
I'd love to know what the manufacturing cost for Krytox is. Being produced in quantity I wouldn't doubt that a 1/2 ounce cost's them penny's and as Novagun said they charge so much because they can...
For those wanting to save on Krytox, you can purchase a two ounce tube of GPL 205 for under $30. They have two ounce tubes of a couple other viscosities for under $40. Go to Zoro to shop for the stuff. If you get your order over $50 there's no shipping or handling - in other words you can save money if you get two tubes. Get with a buddy who wants a tube, too. https://www.zoro.com/search?q=krytox
It seems there are many different Krytox lubes; so make sure you are not comparing apple sauce to Teflon. McMaster has a bunch of them. Some are expensive; some less so: https://www.mcmaster.com/krytoxnced has good results with the Krytox lube he chose.
