1/4 into a 2x4 should be good for small game, I would think. What gun are you using? I suppose I could use an orange, but I'm pretty sure it's gonna zip right through. On another note, I took out a rat last night. Used a RWS Super Point at about 10 yards. Maybe 8. Quartered away from me and I took the shot that hit him just above the left shoulder. Shot had a slight downward angle. What surprised me was that there was no exit wound. Either my gun is very unhealthy or that Super Point is a lot softer than I thought. FWIW, he was mangled inside pretty good. Left shoulder felt broken, spine in between the shoulder blades felt pretty lumpy and the right shoulder seemed like it was off the skeletal line. Basically felt like three lumps. I was feeling around for the pellet, but could not find it. Also looked for an exit wound, but couldn't find that either. Skull didn't look deformed, neither did the mouth. My shot impacted on the left side of his body; no holes or blood on the right side. Do these things turn into hollow points when they enter the target? The last rat I shot was a complete pass through when I used the CPUM Domes. That one went through both shoulders.
