Beeman RX rebuild advice

I have a 20 plus year old RX in 177cal that I just finished my first rebuild on and could use some advice. I have the ability to vary the fps and currently have it shooting 9.5 grains at about 630 fps. I have it at this speed because it's too cold to be outside shooting here in Michigan. The Question I have for you guys is what do you think is the best velocity and pellet weight in 177cal for accuracy and hunting small game? If you have a RX or HW90 in 177cal I would appreciate any input on your preferred setup as far as the amount of ram pressure you are using and your pellet choices. If others have any suggestions for me I appreciate them as well. Thanks

Only you can be the judge of what pellet/style/weight shoots best at any particular ram pressure and velocity output. It takes some time, but it will be worth the effort. I would keep a consistant range though. Say 20, 35, or 30 yards when experimenting with different setups. Sorry but that's about the best advice I can offer you with these heavy hitters. Best of luck

Thanks, I have used my RX as a paper shooter since I bought it new in the late 80s. I have several magnum class spring rifles that I target shoot as well. I know that just like black powder rifles all air rifles have a sweet spot/pellet combination that shoots best in them. I know that the Beeman RX and the HW90 are not as common as the lower priced gas piston rifles but I hoped that someone who was using theirs for hunting would chime in on what setup they found best. I don't mind testing as it is part of the fun of this sport. I have always in the past used my air rifles as a platform to build my shootings skills on and used my powder burners for hunting. Now that I'm retired I have the time to use them for hunting as well. Buy the way the RX was easier to work on than any other air rifle that I have ever worked on before. With the theoben gas system you do not need to use a spring compressor and you really only need three O-rings to rebuild/refresh it. Thanks again

I have the rx in .177 I don't shoot it much but I brought it down from 16ftlbs to around 8ft.lbs shooting jsb 10.34.
I havn't done anything service work to it since I brought it back in the late 80's or early 90's.
the pellets I shoot the most are the jsb 10.34 but the 8.4 and 7.9 are just as accurate with this rifle.

British airgunners do very well shooting small game like rabbits and squirrels with 12 foot pound guns. That's an 8.4 grain pellet at about 800 fps. You should bear in mind that not every gun, and perhaps the HW90/RX especially, may not respond best at that power level. Experiment with a chrony and lots of shooting. In any case, the best results will likely be at a power level that is no higher than 18 or 19 foot pounds with 10.65 grain pellets since you will want to avoid velocities higher than about 900 or so fps.
