Factory RWS 34 mainspring vs RWS 350 mainspring

A friend of mine just got an RWS 350 in .177 yesterday. Today I took it apart and polished the spring ends, lubed, etc. It would appear the mainspring in a 350 is the same as a 34, just longer. Does anyone know if this is the case? If so would a 34 mainspring fit in a 350? We are wanting to down tune this rifle a notch or two and I am trying to figure out a cheap way to do it. The person in question is retired and on limited funds. He doesn't need all the power as he just punches paper. I did not have a factory 34 mainspring available to compare.

Call or email James Maccari, he will fill you in to what you need. His springs are
Top Shelf
and James is a stand up guy. I contacted James one time and he did not have what I needed and pointed me in the right direction, without any profit to himself.

If I'm not mistaken, the 350 spring is .128 wire and the 34 spring is .125 wire. ID should be about the same, 350 spring is longer as you've noticed.
Cheapest option is to cut off a couple coils of the stock spring, heat with a torch and reclose the end.
Next cheapest option is to buy a 34 spring for about $25, and keep the oem spring in case he wants to sell the rifle later.
One possible option is to post a WTB ad to see if anyone has a spare 34 spring they'd sell for a reduced price. It's possible.

A 34 spring a some spacers should work out fine. You do want some pre-load.

Good point, Jim. ARH has everything needed for the conversion...spacers, spring, lubes.

I think this link would be useful to you get some info for comparison between the springs' specs.

Thanks guys. I have access to stock 34 springs, just didn't have one at the time, and wondered if one might work. You guys are probably right I should just order a reduced power spring from JM or Vortek. Good idea on the spacers and a 34 spring though. Felt stupid for not thinking of that. My hope is in a couple months he will squirrel away enough money to just buy a full reduced power kit from JM or Vortek and we can just do it right. Vey nice rifle though. For $249 for a new RWS 350 with a T06 trigger (they told me it would have a T05 when I ordered it for the guy) from AoA I may just order one for myself. Much nicer rifle than a 34. Just needs to be turned down in power a notch or two. It shoots pretty good now. I think it will be great once it is tamed.
