L&W barrel fitted for M-ROD
«

Barrel didn't suit me so I took a .660 L&W Choked barrel and turned it down to .438 polished it and fitted it to the receiver of my M-Rod with no shroud, later I might cut it for the shroud fittings.
UPDATE, 1 barrel has been fitted for factory Shroud.

I have heard about some people modifying LW barrels to fit Marauders, but this it the first time I have seen it done. Great work! What kind of groups are you getting?

One of the issues with doing this is that if you do not machine the whole lenght of the barrel when you install the shroud you loose alot of air space and will be much louder. Mike at Citrus Air who at this time is building me a custom MRod W/LW barrel was telling me how many people do exactly this then cannot understand why their MRod is so loud.
Just something to think about as the idea of the shroud is to capture the air and if you reduce the space, it well effect the quality of noice reduction.
I've ordered a LW barrel directly from LW for my Disco Carbine project and have been waiting 10 weeks as the one I oreded was not a stock barrel and I had to wait for LW's order to come it. The one I have comming will have to be machined to fit but not as much as the ones he stocks.

The barrel for my m-rod won't be shrouded, it is the long one, The other is factory length for a different m rod. You can shorten the barrel the length of 1 spacer and make it almost as quiet as factory, but I am after accuracy and I will find out this afternoon and I will report back. My new TM1000 is not shrouded and it not very loud, my neighbor never hears it.

LW sell a 12mm OD barrel but it's special order.... It only requires a small amount of machining to fit the breech (about 0.020" on the radius) and will therefore leave more volume inside the shroud.... That would be my choice on an MRod, and the only choice on a Disco (unless you have a riser breech).... If you get an LW barrel, make sure you machine the proper ends, as one is choked, the other not.... IIRC they stamp the caliber on the breech end (but don't hold me to that!)....

I have a .25 M-Rod barrel. It has an o'ring groove inside, just past the breech end of barrel, for the probe to seal. What tool did you use to cut the o'ring groove with?

Gene, I made one from a 1/4 HSS ground it, will take a pic and post it in a while. If it will work for a .177 it works for all calibers. The 177 is hardest to grind,
