Hi
I have a chance to pick up a used model 48. It has been sitting for Bout ten years, but is nearly flawless condition. Any risk from the sitting around? I am new to airguns, is this model easy to supportnas far as parts and manufacturer support? I have the serial number, is there a way to look up the year? Are there any specific years to stay away from? Lastly, would 200 be a good price on a used model 48? Thanks in advance

Shouldn't be any serious problems with a gun like that. The only thing that would seriously affect it would be any moisture issues over the years.
There is lots of support for the 48, new springs, guides, mounts and sights are all available. The GTA can probably answer any of your questions but the DWC is a Diana oriented forum:
http://www.network54.com/Forum/184474/
Assuming good condition, $200 is a decent price, if it's a 22 caliber then it's a near steal. The serial number won't tell you the year it was made but there is a date stamp on Dianas. Check on the left, rear of the compression chamber just forward of the safety. You'll find two numbers: "MM YY" format.

The gun actually says model 48/52 on it, what does that mean?

The action is the same for the M48 and M52(and the receiver is marked 48/52) . The only difference is the stock. The M48 has a plainer stock. $200 is not a bad price, but you might try talking the person down some.

The 48 and the 52 are the same gun with the only difference being that the 52 has a little nicer stock. I have 2 of the 48's. One in 177 and the other in 22. Get it. You'll love it. It's a great combination of power and accuracy.

well i got the gun for the two hundred, came with the rws 3-9 x 40 450 scope and mount. It appears to be dated AUgust of 93, but the thing is mint as mint gets. Got two packages of Beeman silver something ammo and a couple bottles of oil as well. I shot the thing in the dark last night at a target in my yard, seems to hit hard, kicks a bit. couldn't get them down any further, but i think i made out ok. is the trigger on this thing adjustable by me?
the only thing i noticed is that th cocking arm doesn't stay against the receiver, it flops out to the side. I'm assuming that this isn't by design, is there a part that could be broken or an adjustment? thanks gents

The handle flops out, i took the clip off and adjusted the rod but still is loose within a couple inches. Should it be that way? Here is a pic

No, it shouldn't be quite that loose. It should hold itself against the gun when closed. As far as the scope goes, that all depends on whether or not you are pleased with it.

No, the lever should not be loose like that. I am not sure what there is by way of adjustment, but it should lock in place when cocked.
What caliber was the gun, btw?

The cocking arm shouldn't flop open like that. There is a little adjusting nut on the small rod. Turn that until the rod is just snug with the arm about 2-3" from closed position.
When it closes it will go just a little past center and hold it closed.
I love my 52 in .177, It shoots one-hole at 15 meters with JSB Exact Heavies. It has a Vortek spring, guide and seal installed and is an awesome hunter...
Here is a 5 shot group off of sticks at 15m:

aarongreen,
Not sure what's going on . . . but it looks like it might be about right the way it is.
Are you pushing the 'handle' up against the side of the receiver? It will meet resistance about where it is in the picture, then "bump" over center and 'snap' up against the side of the gun.
If it doesn't do this, then you need to "lengthen" the threaded rod by unscrewing the square end [after pulling the pin in that end].
When it is adjusted right, replace the pin in the handle and install the circlip. Also you should tighten the jamb nut up against the square end.

What oils did you get? RWS sring oil and RWS chamber oil or lube? While there is some debate as to the usefulness of chamber lube (and I mean one or two SMALL drops in through the transfer port every thousand shots or so - not a squeeze), the spring oil is sort of like a 6 volt car battery. It's better than nothing but the new lubes for springs are so much better.
On the cocking lever, I think they mean the lever should get to within a short distance and then have a little resistance while completing the arc back to keep it closed.
