I saw this to. I'm tempted to buy their new CFX if it has the 1 piece trigger housing so I could try the new piston. I sent Gamo an email asking which trigger unit it had. Definitely a cool thing, glad Tom made a custom piston.

Frank---Doesn't the Gamo HEP have a 33mm piston/seal? I don't think VorteK is offering the new piston in that size. And as an aside, since you mentioned the HEP (don't want to derail the thread) do you have any chrono data on your personal Gamo HEP? Just wondering how it compares to mine is all. I posted some data recently on mine using the JSB 15.89 and the H&N Hornets.

I went back & re-opened the original email and see that it is, in fact gone    Under the chrony number chart NOW says: "Non fitting in Larger GAMO cylinder Magnums.
Spring compressor required."  I wonder why the bigger bionic piston isnt offered now? I should have bought one right away...

As far as crony numbers, I did test the HXP that I sent back (cosmetic issues). That one only had maybe 25 shots thru it.

I have just over 800 shot-count and no chrony #'s yet. Its still winter here in Wisconsin, so plinking is limited by free time & warm enough weather.  This Gamo is becoming my favorite gun. I have a cheap 4x12 scope on an Amazon zero-recoil mount, and can hit a 2.5" target at 50yds easily. The gun likes (FX,JSB) 16g pellets best, but I shoot the 50yd targets w/Norma Heavy 17.6g.

The ONLY negatives I have with this gun is high cocking effort and the gun is so long! What a powerful, accurate beast of a gun. I should have bought 2.

Yeah, that HXP is quite a LONG rifle, like 49 inches! Also, I'm getting used to the high cocking effort. I had to get a new soft rifle case from Midway, I didn't have one long enough for "routine" transport. Got a Midway branded 52" outside length case on a closeout for $25, very nice case and fits the HXP nicely. I had been using my Plano Airglide for transport, which did work great though. I just like the convenience of the soft case for quick range trips..  Regarding the chrony numbers, mine was spitting the JSB 15.89 grainers out @877 fps, for 27.1 ft lbs. So yours @ 896 w/14.3 grainers is looking pretty darn close.

 Im getting my numbers from a Chinese/Amazon barrel-mounted Chrony that I had rested on a block of wood, so numbers are suspect.

I emailed Vortek and asked about the 33mm Piston.....

Yes, that is a bit strange that the velocity would fall off that much. But those Baracudas are almost 3 grains heavier, so maybe the fps data is not really THAT far off? I'm going to go back and take another look at Airgun Angie's data right here on GTA from when she tested the Gamo. Not sure if she tested that Baracuda pellet or not though... 

Edit: So I went back and reviewed Angie's data, and it so happens she DID test the Baracudas with the HXP-- she got 772 fps avg, so a little faster than yours clocked at 739 fps avg (33 fps slower). I'll have to get a tin of the Baracudas just for s&g's next time I order from Pyramyd, and see what mine does with them. Any excuse to order MORE pellets, right?

One thing more to add-- I also looked at JC's ("Airgun Detectives") review of the Gamo HXP, and he was getting over 1000 fps/30 ft lbs with the H&N Baracuda GREEN pellets. Also printed 1/4" CTC groups with that pellet @20yds!! For some reason, his (JC's) HXP seems to shoot both harder and faster than mine, Frank's, or Angie's example. JC was EASILY getting 30ft lbs energy, in contrast to mine with the JSBs at 27.1. Maybe a difference in elevation (barometric pressure) coming into play here? I don't think mine is capable of 1/4" groups at 20 yds either. JC's must be a really exceptional Gamo HXP.

Jr---I'm not sure exactly what "tuning" JC performed on his HXP example , other than his "trigger screw" mod? The results he obtained were really exceptional with that Gamo, especially with those Barracuda "greens". Power AND accuracy. I have not been able to find that particular pellet locally (everything BUT), I certainly would like to try some though. I'll probably order some with my next on-line order from P-Air.

There are no 33mm pistons, or piston seals, or compression chambers in any of the Gamos.

The "33mm" Gamos have 29mm pistons, seals and chambers. Been there, done that.

The reason people get confused about this is because Gamo uses the OUTSIDE diameter of their receivers to get a market claim for the BIGGEST spring guns around. Nobody else does that, for a good reason. A 25mm gun could have a 33mm OD, it would only take a really thick chamber wall. The outside measure means nothing.

The piston weight is too light for the heavier pellets perhaps.  That would also explain an ftt green doing well with fpe.  Lighter piston likes lighter pellet.

I'll chime in on this, and maybe I'm wrong? I don't think GAMO sells parts for their rifle's. so, you have no choice but to go the aftermarket? Now about the velocities you are seeing between the heavier VS light pellets, it doesn't take much in pellet weight difference to reduce or gain velocity, I'll give this example, I had a long time ago a TF89, I put a .20cal barrel on a LW barrel, with the 11.42gn FTT's this rifle shot 810fps, I jumped it up to the 13.58gn Barracuda Match pellets, the velocity dropped to 750fps, still respectable but it lost that much power as far as velocity, IMO, that is to be expected, another example is my R1 Beeman, OC's old rifle, shoots the .20cal FTT's at 865fps I switch to the 13.73gn JSB pellets the velocity drops to 780fps, These 2 examples are highly tuned rifles! just trying to show you what to expect with real world numbers

I have the GAMO Hunter Extreme Ultimate .25 with about 250 shoot that make 37.5FPE with GTO 16.54g and 32.95FPE with FTT 20.06g. My location N. Calif, elevation 52ft and 55F-65F.

Can someone explain how the advance bionic piston works I'm not familiar.
