Duke, I will this evening. Just tried taking the breech seal out and ended up pulling the screw out of the seal. It comes out the front of the compression cylinder, correct?
1/4” drill bit, pulled out while drill was turning slowly. Magic. It was a hard black seal. It kept wanting to go out backwards towards transfer port and I had to push it back in place from inside the cylinder. So, I have no idea how deep to set the new seal. Right now it’s flush with face of compression cylinder. Do I tap it down flush to the line where the taper ends at compression cylinder hole? Once I know what depth to set the breech seal at I’m ready to put it back together.Duke, spring has 32 coils and is 285 mm long. Or 34 coils if you count the collapsed ones at each end. Spring OD is 21.3 mm, wire thickness is 3.3 mm. I’m guessing this is a stock spring, very loose fit on the guide. Piston seal is a light blue and I believe that’s stock also, correct?
Found this from Hector in another thread on replacing breech seal in a Model 48: “Breech seal should make contact with the barrel when the cocking lever is between 1" and 1¼" away from touching the mechanisms tube”. Measured from where on the lever? I’m guessing the forward end of the cocking lever before it angles off but want to be sure. Thanks.
