That makes sense. I read on a thread from here someone using the tar on the seal. And I also saw it on YouTube. It just didn’t seem right.

Hey guys, I am replacing the spring and seal in my HW 95. I bought a JM spring and tar. And a vortek seal. I get using this tar on the spring. But it seems awfully thick for the seal and cylinder. Seems like it would cause a lot of drag. I’m thinking about trying something a little, lighter like engine, assembly lube, or something along those lines. Do you see any problem with that? Thanks, Ben.
I think I’ll start over and try that. 2 questions. Do you recommend putting krytox directly on the seal? And do you put anything on the spring?
I have been using krytox lately. During cold weather my semi's would not reload when weather was less than 10 degrees. Cleaning them up and applying 205 on bolts and 105 on some linkage cured the cold weather issue. When I use the tube of 205 I have I probably will go to 226.
