I have a S&W 41 looking Daisy but not a 78 0r 79. It is a Powerline 790. It is all metal except grips has the adjustment for power in the front. I know it is probably a later made gun but I have had it 30 - 40 years. Are these collectable or wanted? It leaks and I don't want it but was thinking of putting a seal kit in if worth it. What do you people think? Seems like they made different versions of this pistol, how do you know which one you have?
I just read your thread and see you got a 79. I read the pyramid blog and evidently they still are a pretty good pistol. I have an early S&W 41 and weight and feel is close. In their blog the 790 shot 177 around 500 fps with Mac 1 kit. Probably start there. I'm thinking I might like this pistol so going to rebuild it and clean it up some. Trigger has a long first stage of about 4.5 lbs. Second stage is around 3. Have to see if I can trim the first stage pull some. Think I'll order the kit. Mine has a D stamped on the butt I think that means Daisy worked on it.
Just ordered the rebuild kit from Mac 1. He talks about heating the pistol up after rebuild then applying pressure. David did you do that on your rebuild? Thanks for the info on the phase. Mine was recalled, Daisy stamped the bottom of the grip with a D. I think the trigger can be improved but I won’t know for sure until I tear it down. Has anyone touched up the finish on these pistols? Looks like a paint of some type.
Mac 1 has those instructions on their kit page. He uses hard teflon O Rings and maybe that is necessary to get them to seat. It better seal 40 bucks for the kit.
