Does anybody have a more definitive production range for these ?I've heard 1978 is when S&W stopped making them and have heard 1980.

Some time after that Daisy took over production and sold them as the 790. Unfortunately, Smith didn't use a serial number system that makes it easy to date month and year of production.
Between this and the post regarding the Daisy version, I might go dig mine out and see if they work. I've had one of the S&W's since the early 90's, it was one of the dumbest trades I made as a young teenager. I gave up a FWB 124 that was imported by ARS. Only reason I remember it was an ARS import was because it was still in the box I was way into firearms more though, and the S&W name sealed the deal on the trade

And if it did fail, I wouldn't of had any way of getting it fixed back then. I knew very little about airguns, airgun maintenance, and where or how to get them fixed. So value wise, I did real bad... but, I did get to use the S&W and I still have that same gun today
