P.S: Don't even inquire about the degassing tool if you have a maximus on order, they will automatically void your warranty. I found out the hard way.
Quote from: MDStroup on June 15, 2016, 01:09:52 AMYup, that is pretty much what i am going to be doing to mine in the beginning as well. Then when i get enough money back together i am sending the Maximus off to Rocker1 to work on.Honestly you seem to be a pretty mechanically inclined fella.. Rocker does great work and is a *(&^ of a guy!! but I am betting by the time you get ready for that you will be doing your own tuning and getting things figured out Quote from: MDStroup on June 15, 2016, 01:20:06 AMSpeaking of springs, what hammer spring are you going to use on this SSG? I figured i would ask in the thread instead of a PM incase anyone else had a similar thought or had questions or comments on it. I know i would like to try a 0.040" thick hamner spring to see if it would work.a .040 spring would be to heavy for the lower power tunes your looking to get right now.... The earlier disco's had a .034 16 coil spring,,,, the newer ones I hear have a stiffer spring and I am not sure what it is.... mine has a .039 coil spring in it now but it WAS tuned for about 26.5 fpe I ran a 2k fill down to about 1300 psi with a small transfer port to get a nice flat shot string... think its posted a few pages back in the disco SSG thread.. that tune is no longer applicable because the gun is now regulated and a few things changed so I may be going down to a weaker .034 spring not sure still playing with it....since this is going into a maximus and the maximus is advertising more shots then a disco stock I am sure they have made port and maybe a spring change to get the efficiency back up from the last gen of disco's....personally I think the spring thats in the gun now would be a good starting point to tune with and for lower power (say 20 fpe or less) is probably going to be a good choice.....this is a good subject and has me thinking... I am building and shipping these WITHOUT a spring because of the fact every ones tune needs are a little different and spring choice varies... Thats why when I sized all the parts I built these to fit stock springs and the spring variations for a disco thats out there within reason... I have a very heavy spring(need to measure the wire) I have not tried in the guide rod yet.... I never liked it in the gun as its cocking force was VERY high... but I guess if I am going to make this as universal as possible I need to make sure a massive power spring will fit the rod as well...thanks for bringing it up... I will have to make sure its a good fitment for heavy springs as well before i send them out to everyone....!!!!

Ha! It's hard to be "universal" with a bunch of airheads!
I am glad i asked then. I dont know if i would ever tune it as much as Rocker1 could as i dont have the tools or the experience. Because one wrong move and imjust made a pipe bomb. Me no wanty to do that!It is only in the beginning i want to do that lower power tune as imwant tomget a feel for it before i start have it messed with. The reason i asked about the 0.040" thick hammer spring is because that is the one you needed if you where going to do the 2400psi fill and I wanted to try that out. As you seemed to get an all around flatter curve with it.Also, i dont know where that statement came from that the maximus might be more efficient than the discovery. Well it isnt true. Look on crosmans website. Same stats. I even called yestarday to inquire about some parts and asked about it. It have the same exact shoot count and fps stats in its respective caliber compared to the discovery. P.S: Don't even inquire about the degassing tool if you have a maximus on order, they will automatically void your warranty. I found out the hard way.
I have a mildly home ported valve in the gun now with a 5/32 transfer port bushing and the TRAKAR spring which is .300 OD x .040 wire x 1.750 length. It's perfectly easy to cock the gun with it, however I do have a BNM breach which has a nice, large, bolt and handle similar to a Mrod. That makes it a bit easier.I plan to put the stock valve back in the gun and try the TRAKAR with the SSG first. I have a couple 2200 springs and the factory spring to play with too. Some combination should get me where I want to be which is less power than today and probably double the shot count.
Awesome! When you do it to the Discovery it still retains the gauge in the same spot then right? As i dont want to drill the air tube yet. If so i may need you to make me one!

If so i may need you to make me one!Yes everything is retained in the stock locations.... unfortunately to make them I need the gun in hand to do the work.... first the extension needs made... then the whole think located in the gun and then the face for the seal milled ... since the extension is threaded to the valve there is no other way of doing it
you absolutely CAN drill out the stock gauge block some .... its what most people do
A member on another forum has posted some Maximus chrony numbers for .22 http://www.marauderairrifle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=12547
I was actually referencing the .177 shot count when I was typing that... a stock .177 disco doesnt get 30 shots lol!! lucky to get 20.....I have not used the trakar spring I hear people talking about so I have no idea where to get them sorry you can open up the stock gauge block a bit without screwing it up.. there are a few threads on it around here that will tell you how far you can go.... Me I just machine a whole new rear for the valve itself then make an externally sealed gauge port the doesnt interfere with the flow through in the valve... dont have a picture for the disco but I do for the b50 I am building for field target I did it to so I could add a gauge(whoever though a pcp without a pressure gauge was a good idea......)basicaly looks like this when donevalve with the extension and then the stock caphw much better it feedsgood view on its unimpeded airflowand what it looks like put togetherI essentially do the same thing when I am building a disco

By more accurate, I mean within 100 psi instead of the factory crosman almost pointless 700 psi. The only reason I know it's off that far is because the gauge on my pump ( a Mark 4 ) give me almost the same reading as the new gauge from McMaster and is exactly the same as the gauge on my Mrod. Should have put the Mrod gauge in the gun really. For anybody interested, I think I might have one or two of the TRAKAR springs left, but I will have to check.I bought a bag of 10 from TRAKAR Products Inc. in Canada and sold most of them here in the Classifieds. If your interested in buying them directly from Trakar http://www.trakar.com/products/compression-springs/, the part number is C0762-102-0445. They also offer it in stainless, same part number but with an S on the end. Shipping is international from Canada.
Michaelm I like your breech, did you make that, if so could I buy one, if you didn't make it who did you purchase it from, thanks.
Looking forward to playing around with my Maximus and your ssg.I ran some quick #'s after opening up my valve and TP 2100 psi with Premiers 15 shots High 919 Low 896 909 average 23.55 ES 6.7 SD 2000 PSI JSB Exact Jumbo 10 Shots High 882 Low 867 876 Average 15 ES 5 SD Mounted a Mueller 4.5x14 APV and did a quick sight in at 30 yards. Tried the usual pellets JSB exacts & heavies, Crosman Premiers, & others I had left from a few years ago. Baracuda match, Beeman fts & JSB Predators. I thought the JSB heavies would be the best but to my surprise this rifle loves the Beeman FTS (field target special). I consistently got one hole ragged 1/2 inch groups or better. The predators were the next best with almost the same results. I imagine groups will get better as the barrel sees more action. Hopefully in the not to distance future I will get it out to 50 yards, My discovery I built about 6 years ago shoots nickel size groups or better at 50 yards.
