Title: HW95 in .22cal tuning suggestions
Post by: .20cal fan on May 30, 2015, 02:02:11 AM
Opinions, experiences, first hand knowledge and suggestions for spring, piston seal and/or tune kit for HW95 .22cal. Want the best if both worlds meaning a smoother shooter but don't want to lose power either. Hoping to stay in the original power range of 13-16ft/lb area I believe that they are from the factory.

Put in a Vortek or Macarri parachute seal correctly sized. Manufacture a fitted delrin spring guide & thin top hat bearing.
Polish spring ends and lube with ultimox 226 threw out.  Smooth Mother !!! having factory power or better.

I agree with Motohead. Or you may want to concider a PG2 kit from Vortek coupled with a full tuning. Tuned my .177 HW95L last week. Moor power and accuracy. Check out my post

Scott, how do you suggest the fit be on a piston seal?  I have seen/read that I want the piston to fall under it's own weight but stop when covering the transfer port.  Is that too loose?  What is your take?  Thank you.

On those actions with precision honed compression tubes ... what i will call a shaker fit.
With a light film of lube on tube walls & seal, held vertical the piston will hold under it's own weight and not slide.
Upon shaking tube this has piston slowly moving down, stop shaking it also stops.

Ideally when set up this loose, manually sliding piston up/down stroke distance at NO TIME should you feel it get looser !!
tad snugger ok because this will wear in over time & use.

* if in doubt better to start a tad snug and let action break in, than start loose having chances of compression losses.

Thank you Scott!  I appreciate the insight.  I recently sized my Vortek Vac seal to do like I described with sliding under it's own weight but stops when covering the TP.  I lost 10 fps overall average so I am curious if I made the seal too loose.  I made an order for 3 seals and a spring to drop in my HW35 so those should be coming this next week.  Now I can try and size one up to fit as you described and see what happens to the average speed.  Before I sized it, it was pretty snug and took firm pressure to move around.  I just got a bit more off than I had planned but it still works and the SD is still at 2-3 fps which is very pleasing!  Thanks again.

that's what you'll be doing to my HW95 in a week or so? ;)
