Does anyone else prefer these over full length models? I certainly do thats for sure. They are only a few inches shorter but for me it moves the whole balance point back enough that its not as barrel heavy and it feels more natural to point.
My first Weihrauch was an HW50 that I traded away for a used HW95 in an R9 stock with Vortek kit which I have owned for about 17 years now. The most recent one is a newer HW80 in 177 which I replaced the barrel with one from an 85K in .22 caliber with HW77 rear sight. Its detuned a bit and is my plinker and sort of feels like holding an old shotgun versus a springer.

As for the Diana, I never liked the feel of them until I discovered the 34 classic. IMHO feels like a flagpole with a scope on it but with a new front sight and a tech sight it is an absolute joy to shoot. I even put a little weight in the butt for balance. So I guess they are not all K length. Maybe I will find a diana 24c barrel again some day.

While I have no HW K's, I fully agree with your preference. If I ever get another Weihrauch, it will be a K, since I know from experience shorter barrels improve springers' handling and balance. All the more when it comes to underlevers, which are barrel heavy by default, unless shortened.
The D34 really does feel a bit like a flagpole, skinny and long. I'm kinda tempted to take a hacksaw to mine.
-
I prefer the K length Weihrauchs. My R1 has a full length barrel and makes the already massive gun look and feel like a monster. It's a great gun but I much prefer my smaller and lighter Hw30s, 50 and 95s. I probably only keep the R1 because I have so much time in tuning it and it's a iconic airgun.
-
I definitely prefer the "k" length guns. I have a 95k, 98 and a 1 of 30 D34k. The hw35 and standard D34 are too long.
-
Just about every AG I have I've had the barrel chopped off, but I have also added a moderator back to them, which was my goal, IMO the rifles that really shine in this configuration are the HW50's, but all my other HW's benefit from these mods as well, my barrel lengths range from 10.5'' to 12.25'' depending on caliber and power plant, ;)

I'd love to try a K barrel on my Weihrauch HW85, that rifle is truly a LONG gun in its current state. However I don't mind the full-length barrel on my HW35E, I actually like it like that. I do have a Diana 24C and really love it for its accuracy and compactness, this is my nicest Diana and I wouldn't trade it for a full-length barrel 24. BTW there was one for sale on the CAF a while ago, don't know if it's sold though: https://www.airgunforum.ca/forums/topic90873.html (https://www.airgunforum.ca/forums/topic90873.html)

My biggest issue with HW and AA under levers has been the weight, not barrel length, but I also liked the HW77K and 97K versions for the way they balanced. The balance made the heavier weights more manageable for me.
As for the break barrels, the longer barrels on my 35E or my FWB Sports have not been as much of an issue. They balance just fine for me and, of course, they are not as heavy, though the Sport is about as heavy as I want to go, now. The stock design of the Sport is a better fit for me than, say, the HW95, so even though the 95 is a bit lighter, I can manage the Sport better for offhand work.

Thanks for the tip, if only it was a rare .22c model. I guess now that I think about it too they don’t come dovetailed like the classic model does so I would probably be out of luck.
-
Nice guns, Ian. How did you fit the nice front sight on your 34? Did you have grooves machined into the muzzle?
-
Well I’ll have to be the bad apple in the bunch. My Hw77 stainless is superb, deadly accurate and a joy to shoot. To me it’s not barrel heavy at all. I’m only 5 foot 11 inches in the old scale and I have no issues with the weight or length of the rifle. To me it’s less jumpy then my Hw50S and did I say more accurate 👍

My classic model came with the plastic sight but luckily it was also machined with a dovetail which was a nice surprise. I used an HW front sight which required a little bit of trial and error with JB weld as the dovetail is a smaller size but it’s quite solid now.
Windmill, wanna share a pic of that 77? Wish I would have found a used one years ago.

Here she is. I hope this works never posted a photo on here before.

Ah. Thanks for the info. I've had a few later T06 Dianas with the plastic sights and they don't have dovetails. Those plastic muzzle blobs are a wart on otherwise nice rifles.

Not very good photos, came out upside down. Try this one.
Edit: well by the looks of this one I’ll leave posting photos to the experts :D :D

There was a guy on the old airgun advice board(who later became a member here). Who had a HW80K that had been worked over by John in PA. He put a Williams FD peep on ut and it was one of the coolest aAG’s I’ve ever seen. If anyone can remember his handle we might be able to see the pics he was a good photographer too. That 77K is really cool looking too.

Windmill thanks for the pics looks like a good one.

My 34 is a T05 classic model. The rifle droops so much the plastic sights were un usable. The HW sight is a little lower so does the job on the plus side it doesnt have that ugly angle cut at the muzzle. I also shimmed the stock with some rubber kitchen liner which I read about on here to reduce vibration. It also has a Maccari spring and has a solid smooth thunk when I pull the trigger which after a lot of adjustment is decent.
LAalex- I have a spare peep but like the 77 sight as its easier for judging elevation without adjustment for me anyways

Did your Model 34 come with the butt pad? My T05 Model 34 didn’t but I wish it had. I’m with you, I love shooting mine. Williams peep on mine. Mine has the dovetail on the front but came with a metal tunnel site with a pointed post.

Cjtamu
It came as pictured with the pad which I shaped a little and put a half lb of lead under. Production date is 2007, from other Diana’s I have had over the years it has the most features.

Ahh. Mine is a few years older, must have just missed the butt pad. Looks very similar to yours except for that. Actually has the fewest features of my Dianas though! In answer to your question, the only HW “K” I have is a HW97K long barrel. It’s true, it’s an actual thing. Labeled that way on the box. Wonderful gun. But longer than a regular HW97K.

In the pix of the Diana 24c, that rifle looks like a Cometa 220c, and I have 2 of them {220c} models, 8)
-
Mark, here's a picture of my 2007 Diana 24C for reference. Byhsu just posted a pic of the Cometa 220 in here: https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=205803.0 (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=205803.0)

Pic of the HW97K long barrel below. Barrel extends past the cocking arm unlike the other versions.

Yes sir, other than the scope rail and the safety button and no recoil pad on the 24c and iron sights my Cometa's basically look just like the 24c, https://www.carabinasypistolas.com/en/cometa_220_compact_air_rifle.php (https://www.carabinasypistolas.com/en/cometa_220_compact_air_rifle.php)
