Today I tried a new-to-me product, the PlastiDip rubber coating. I wanted to paint the lower frame of my Stoeger XP4 pistol in camo green like the factory ones, and while shopping for paint I saw this and decided to try it. The frame and left grip were degreased and etched, and given 4 medium thickness coats. Finish is very ''rubbery'' to the touch and colour is a nice dark green, not too far from the factory green. Just hoping it'll wear well.

Very interesting,I was thinking something of the like to make a Nove Freedom plastic stock not sound hollow and give better grip. Keep us informed on the durability please !

So is the paint holding up, I'm thinling of painting my avenger.

It's only been a few weeks, but so far it's holding up fine, very scratch-resistant. I like the feel better than plastic.

I would assume the Plasti-dip will only cure tougher with age, think one of my very hard plastic stocks will get this treatment soon.

Indeed it does ;). I waited a week before assembling parts otherwise the coatings would have stuck together. That's what it did on my other ''test airgun'' after 2 days, a Daisy model 74. If I'd used it on tool handles I wouldn't mind, but I'd rather wait a short while for my airguns, so they stay ''as new''. Cheers!

I've got 3 cans on the way ,tan, brown and green ,will a multi color job require painting one color then masking off before applying the next or can I just paint all at once, or should I paint it one color then apply next one on top of 1st, thanks for any advise.

I didn't try a multi-color - camo - pattern yet, but as for me, I'd first apply a base, 3-layers of the lightest color, tan for you, then go on with the darker ones with a scheme you like. Follow the 20-minutes-between-each-coat instructions, the preceding layer will be dry enough not to ''mix-up'' with the next layer of a different color, no need for masking. Just make sure the surface is thoroughly cleaned and de-greased before painting. If you can ''etch'' the surface with fine ScotchBrite or steelwool before, even better. HTH.

Thinking about it, you can also fill all the voids in the plastic stock with cheap caulking, it helps tremendously to dampen the resonance.

LOL I just gave the Freedom to my cousin last weekend, will have to find another one to try or see if he wants it done.

I'm not impressed wirh the plastic dip paint , after one week its starting to wear off in high contact areas, I will use plain old krylon camo paint from now on.

I saw the thread and was about to post, but reading to this point I see you found the same as I did. It does eventually give up. Spray on bed liner is also recommended, but I don't think that comes camo. Seems like it should...
