Ruger Air Hawk Elite II Barrel Rise
«

Earlier this year I picked up a Ruger Air Hawk Elite !! that gad a barrel that rose upward maybe 1/8" from breech block to muzzle.
Thinking this to be not correct, I bent it down in my arbor press.
At a gun show yesterday I came across another AH Elite II that exhibited the same barrel rise.
Is this a common problem or the way it is designed??

It could be neither. If the barrel is released for any reason during the cocking process it can slam back up with enough force that inertial can bend the barrel.

Some high-end springers have a deliberate whiff of rising barrel, to facilitate scope use. I don't think any Chinese guns such as the Ruger have.
Low-end springers don't even need to have their barrels slammed shut by misuse to get bent barrels. My trusty Gamo Hunter's barrel bent without any such foolery, at around 4 000 pellets. Suddenly, I couldn't hit anything anymore, and the reason was the barrel that had bent upwards from simply shooting the gun a lot.

I believe I have the exact same rifie sold as the Umarex Airem 2.
Mine also has an upward bend, but it didn't come that way. It happened because I accidentally fired it out of battery while looking through the scope.
If this is the same rifle, you may notice that the safety only activates when you overcock the rifle. After cocking it, you can turn the safety off without closing the barrel. Or if you cock it only just far enough to engage the sear, the safety will not activate in the first place.
So my guess is that this rifle is prone to user error. If you bought yours new, it is perhaps a reboxed return?

I purchased mine at a pawn shop.
I used the barrel's upward cant as a haggle point.
I did not purchase the one I saw at the gun show........
