I know some of you have done it, I've seen a lot of them done. for those that have personal experience painting scopes, is there anything other than the obvious that I need to know? short of masking the optics, and I imagine it would be best to mask of the threads for the adjustment caps and spray the caps separately.

I've never painted a scope, but have painted plastic (assuming it's plastic?). It sounds like you're on the right track with your thoughts about the threads. I would make sure to use a paint made specifically for plastics and prep really well and use primer.

Just make sure that any oils are off the scope mask off the glass and anything like yrds etc. that you want to see after the camo. The prep is important since any oils will cause the paint to orange peel. On my own scopes I paint everything except the glass of course and I screw the cap's on and pant them also. After the paint dries you can unscrew the cap's or as you mentioned just take the cap's off and mask the threads. Ed
