Title: Fun Shoot in Pittsburgh, PA Area?
Post by: Pappy on May 31, 2017, 01:25:57 AM
Hey yunz Pixsburgh area goof balls ..... let's work on a fun shoot somewhere convenient for all of us.  I don't have the property, but a couple of guys that have P.M.'ed me might have.  Two years ago, "Dead-On" invited me to a fun shoot at "Darwin's" home in Markleysburg, PA (the Uniontown area) and he must have had a dozen people there.  Then we have Jeff Little "WhiteFox545" in McMurray, PA with land I think, We have Dave "Dbez1" in the Kittanning area, and I think he has a ton of property.  There are at least 7 or 8 more we can try to get involved.  I travel for work, but will help with logistics as much as I can.  Hopefully the Pittsburgh area GTA members will read and reply to this, and we can begin a conversation about this.  We are all within an hour or so from each other, perhaps we could have several fun shoots this summer.  Hope this post generates some interest.

Safe shooting ....

No problem Tater.  I thought it would be more visible if it came up in the "show unread posts since last visit"?  Maybe it might.
Thanks;

Pappy, Allen,  Jeff little here!  Just found your reply here a few miniets ago!!  I had sent you a personal message earlier in the year and never saw a responce till just know!  Sorry!!  We have a small group of airgunners that shoot out of the Sherwood Archery Club near Steubenville Ohio.Just over the borderon Rt 22 West.    We have 20 knock down field targets that we play with in good weather and we shoot 30 yard  benchrest indoors in the clubs archery range when the weather turns cold!  We shoot Tuesday evenings , Thursday mornings and Sunday afternoons .  Any one interested in joining the fun can contact me anytime on my cell phone at 412-992-8635.    We are contimplating having an actual field target shoot at the club next summer 2018 also!  Some of us have been attending some shoots in Ohio this summer and have met some great people doing so!  Hope to hear from you soon,     Jeff Little  McMurray Pa.15317

Hey Jeff, thanks for the invite.  We shot mainly at 50 yards and out, preferably 100.  Also, we are bench-rest focused.  We do have a bunch of field targets, but we are too lazy to set them out, then put them back after shooting.   :P
In the Spring, we'll try this again, get a fun shoot together in our area.

Hi! Pappy,  Thanks for the Quick reply!  Sounds like you have a few guys shooting locally?  Where do you shoot at and what part of town are you all from?  I'm in the South Hills and would love to get together some time and fling some lead and possibly work out some plans for a fun shoot! or any kind of shoot?  We are a small community being air gunners but I think it is slowly growing due to being more of a low keyed form of shooting sport less feared by the average non shooter of today's society.   Let me know if you would like to get together.  Jeff Little Mc Murray Pa.

I hope you keep this thread going. I have been looking around for other shooters in my area (State College), with no luck. I am very new to airguns and can't learn enough at this point.  Not sure if you would want an outsider for your shoots, but if you guys had one on a day I had off, I would love to come (if not just to watch and talk).  I would love to see what others have and shoot and learn things they have done to their guns.  I can't read enough on here about those things but sometimes need things dumbed down for me to understand. LOL

  Thanks Bill C!

I am in the Leechburg area and have 10 acres with a 100 yard range set up. Nothing much but I have a lot of open space to build up the range. I am also looking for guys to enjoy this airgunning sport. Just got into pcp's myself with a hatsan flash in .22 and loving it. I also belong to North Buffalo sportsman's they do an any gun trail walk every 3rd sunday of the month. I love to show up to that one with my .36 cal flinter. Seems that all my current friends find it as a neat novelty but dont see it as a serious viable means to take game. Anyhow if anyone is interested in meeting up message me and hopefully we can get a group going.

UK007 I am not far from you. I would like to get maybe a small group going. Do some fun shoots or maybe something like a blanket or meat shoot. Maybe someone will pick back up on this thread when weather gets better and we can all organize something.

Hi! 86 Marine, and others!  I have posted here before with the hopes of finding more local Air Gun guys. I'm a fairly serious Field target shooter who would be willing to help you all get started in that form of shooting or getting together just to shoot on the weekends that I don't have to travel to shoots.  Most competitions are in Ohio, New York and Md. so you have to be willing to do some traveling.
There are various classes and having the best equipment is not a re-requirement, only that you want to have a good time shooting your air gun!! Of course safety is paramount at the shoots as it should be!
I live in McMurray Pa. which is about 15 miles south of Pittsburgh and travel three times a week to Sherwood Archery Club near Steubenville Ohio were we have a 30 yard indoor range for cold or bad weather and we also have over 30 field target's and a practice range that we set up in the good weather.
Let me know if I can help any of you with most anything airgun related as I would be more than happy to!   All so if you have a get together count me in if it doesn't conflict with my Field Target shoot schedule as I would like to attend.  Hope we can get together one day soon!   Jeff Little  McMurray Pa

Starlingassassin   -  If the offer still stands I'd love to spend some time with your reduction efforts.  I enjoy powder burners for groundhogs but willing to try my newly acquired Pcp on anything.  Always happy to help the landowners out.

Dbez1 (Dave) here and I’m located in the country outside of Ford City. I’m retired and really enjoy my PCP’s. I’ve run several fun shoots for our church so if anyone gets a fun shoot going, I’d be interested. I check my email often so am easy to contact.

I have reserved the Fort Hand Rifle Club facilities for an Airgun-only Fun Shoot beginning  at 10 AM on Saturday, September 17, 2022. There is no cost involved. We have 10 outdoor benches where we can shoot out to 100 yards or so. In case of bad weather, there are six, 20-yard indoor benches where we can take turns. It’s about 45 minutes NE of Pittsburgh, just off Alt. 66 in a little village called Dime (about 10 minutes N of Vandergrift). There are a variety of local restaurants in the general area for lunch. I want to emphasize that this is a non-competitive fun shoot designed for any quality airgun and for novices as well as expert marksmen. No one should be intimidated by lack of knowledge or skill. It’s really an opportunity to get to know some new airgunners and have some fun along the way. Bring your friends as well as your guns, ammunition, air source, and some targets.   I’ve got four spinners I’ll bring and a large bottle of aspirin tablets as targets for indoor shooting. Youth are welcome on the condition that they are supervised by an adult and are capable of shooting in a safe manner. I hope to see you there and again, it’s going to happen no matter what the weather!

We’ll look forward to meeting you Ron along with some others. Marine86 and I are organizing this Fun Shoot and he has been talking about doing a pot luck lunch with his ham barbecue. He’s also invited a couple big names in the industry so this may become a bigger deal than originally thought. We’ll get back to you all with more details.

Fort Hand Rifle Club

Remember that it’s free and starts at 10:00 AM. If you can’t make it until later, that’s ok too. Bring a friend. More information later.
Title: Report on Fun Shoot in Pittsburgh, PA
Post by: Dbez1 on September 19, 2022, 11:34:26 AM
We had a great time. There were 9 shooters and I had to call it quits around 2:30. Guns represented were Daystate Redwolf, Taipan Veteran, Benjamin, Gauntlet, Avenger, and others that I can’t remember. A lot of lead went down range. The wind flags were moving just slightly so the conditions were good out to 110 yards. Most brought targets of various sizes and descriptions and were placed from 30-110 yards. Phil provided a nice barbecue lunch and others brought a side dish. There was a “for sale” table. Kevin D. was our range master and he also had a blast shooting some of our extra guns. We ended the day shooting aspirin tablets (mostly laying down)  at 44 yards. If you hit them just right, they disintegrate in a puff of white. Very satisfying but it’s harder than it sounds!  Many thanks to the Fort Hand Rifle Club for allowing us to use their facilities.  The question I got most was “when is the next shoot?” I’ll notify you all in this thread, so put it on your “watch” list.  We have decided to shoot biannually. Again, sorry if you missed it.
