First time using Ballistol

I ran a few patches sprayed with Ballistol through my HW 80 last night and it took a bunch of black residue out, several passes later the patches came out with just a light discoloration and I called it good. This is the most foul smelling cleaning solution I have ever used and should come with a clothes pin to clamp your nostrils shut🤢 To me it smells like wet feet....that's all I have to say.

You'll get use to it eventually. I've been using it for about 10 years, still not a pleasant smell but not as bad as it smelled the first time I used it.

The smell is penitence for our airgun addiction....isn't it😜

 The packet wipes are the worst, do not inhale whe opening. Otherwise the stuff works wonders. Multipurpose.

You'd think they could add some pepprmint oil or something, but then it would smell like peppermint and wet feet🤢 It did a good job cleaning the gunk out of the barrel though, my buddy bought the can for me so I at least gotta use it once in a while so as not to seem ungreatful LOL!

I use it and just kinda ignore the smell. Boss, our American Bulldog, emits smells that 100% out stink Balistol. Actually, Balistol is like a breath of fresh air in comparison.

It definitely has a unique smell. It sometimes causes me to start coughing for whatever reason.

Betty Lou won't even come in the shop when I'm using it.. but then again, she hates the smell of gasoline.

For patches, I've switched from the aerosal to the small bottle.  I take a stack of patches, put it on top of the bottle that has a small punture hole for the oil, flip it upside down once or twice, then flip the stack and do the other side.  In about a minute the stack of,patches has absorbed the ballistol well.  It still is odorous, but it's not the same as the aerosol excess being all in the air.

I rather enjoy the smell of Ballistol. It threw me the first time because it's just such a unique smell, but it quickly grew on me. I use it on my work boots (leather and/or synthetic parts), all of my leather and smaller wood items such as tool handles and knife scales/sheathes, and tools that need protecting like files and rasps. It's the only cleaning product I use on my airguns. I also keep small rust prone parts like sight blades in little tins with a good coating of Ballistol.

It removes surface rust well enough to make me giggle a bit and has some pretty interesting interaction with water which I have yet to explore properly. Supposedly it can protect a firearm from complete immersion in water for an extended period. Supposedly it is edible. Supposedly a lot of things are edible.

I greatly dislike (read: physically repulsed by) most perfumes and fragrances (soap, shampoo, lotion, laundry), but tend to enjoy smells such at terpentine, paint, vinegar, isopropyl alcohol. Perhaps there is a correlation there.

Should I taste some Ballistol? Now I've gone and gotten myself curious...

I have some of the wipes in packets but have not used any yet. I should wipe down my primary shooters tomorrow anyway so I'll give them a whiff and whirl.

The strong scent can be bothersome while hunting. Having bores and ammo with a pronounced Ballistol aroma may not be ideal.
