Title: New from West Central Missouri
Post by: rhbrink on August 16, 2018, 04:08:13 PM
I just signed on and became a member I've done a lot of competitive shooting in my life but I'm new to air gun competition. I do have a Rws 48 that is used mostly to shoot squirrels in the back yard and it does a good job of that!

But I would like to add that the muzzleloader club that I belong to has made a change in the by-laws that allow air rifles to be shot on our range. So we are thinking about trying to develop some air rifle competition we would probably start out 25 yards or meters and 50 yards benchrest figuring that would the easiest to start. We do have an area that Field Targets could be set up but that would take some work and those targets are expensive so that would be a ways away?

The range is located just off 50 Highway about half way between Lee's Summit and Warrensburg.

Anybody interested?

Hello RB,
...and a Warm Welcome to the GTA "family"!!  Hmmmm, well... it sounds interesting and inviting for sure.  Personally, I belong to the NASA group down in NW Arkansas... but to be honest I've only made it to TWO of there meetings, and NONE of their shoots, although I've attended a couple of shoots over at the East Tulsa (OK.) Capital Oil Gun Club with some of the guys from the NASA group.... and we shoot Indoor 10M type shoots with pistols & rifles, both.

At "home" the NASA groupd also (Mostly) does indoor 10M (Meter) shoots, twice a month at an Archery facility on Wednesday nights from 5:30 until 9pm.   Many of the Airgun clubs around the country do indoor and outdoor 10M shoots as well as field target,  but it seems that the Field Target Shoots are primarily held on the regional and national levels.

Anyway,  I for One, would be very interested... although I wonder how that type of shoot would work in the coming winter months... especially This coming winter.  Does the "Muzzleloader Club" that you're referencing have an Indoor range as well?  Would be Great if so, could do indoor 10M or greater, depending on available range length, if permissible.

I'm "retired".... kinda ;D, I started working again this past March for some extra spending money,  and I can work as much or as little as I want.... am hauling corn, soy, wheat, etc, for a large farming operation just a little east of Pittsburg, KS. on the MO. side.   I bought a house and land here last year after I got married to a lady from the "Ozarks" down here a few years ago.... I'm from the northern Wyo./western Montana area.... not much to be had for "airguns" up in that country,  anything smaller than 50. cal. is pretty much laughed at..... it can be a LONNNG way's off to your prey up there, sometimes. lol ;D

My wife and I are about 2 hrs drive I think (will have to check) from where your talking about having the shoot... but not a "deal-breaker".  My wife has taken a "liking" to airgun shooting sports since we got married, though she hasn't shot much past 25 yards most of the time, and really enjoys the 10M shoots we've been to.

Myself, I just got back into airguns on a whim, in July of 2013... first one since I was a "kid", and bought a Weihrauch HW80 in .22 cal. to start things off.... then I read where one of the guys on here said... "You can't have.. Just One" (airgun)..... guess that's why I have somewhere around 40 of them, now..... and as one other poster on here said..."This isn't a sport, it's full blown disease!"  I tend to agree with that statement! ;D

When you say that the Field Targets are "expensive"... what do you concider expensive"?

I think anything much beyond the 50 yards you mentioned,  would be getting into some of the higher end PCP airgun territory for power and accuracy.... and although I have a .25 cal. Mrod (Gen.2 - wood), I RARELY have ever shot it, purely because I refuse to spend all that extra money on all the paraphenalia one needs to fill pcp's with.... I have seversal hand pumps,  but with the Mrod... it just gets to be a "bit much" from about 2,200 psi, upwards... in fact have only put 3 magazines through it since new (winter of 2015/2016), and thinking of selling it to someone who would shoot it a lot more than I have.

I have a couple of "Disco's" that are fun, as well as one of Mike Melicks XS60's (pcp version) which is also easy to pump up... at least not enough to take away from the fun of shooting pcp's.  I guess I'm really a "springer" type guy... and have also found CO2 to work really nice for the indoor 10M shoots as well.

Long story - short, keep me posted... I AM Interested.   You can also PM (personal message) anyone on here as... just put your "mouse" on (ie;) my name (top left corner) and left click it, and it will take you to my personal "box" and you will see a box on the left side with several options... one of which is "send pm".... just Left click on that and a page will open up for you to write a message.... and at the Bottom, there will be a couple of options to "send", "preview" or...??? just forgot the third... maybe "spell check", not sure. ???

Stay in touch, RB.

I have some more information we will have a air rifle match Sept 22 afternoon probably starting around noon or so. I have some air rifle bench rest targets coming so we will have a couple of bench rest aggs  shot at 25 and 50 yards and maybe a offhand agg also.

We do have a covered firing line and benches but no place to shoot inside. We also have an  area that could be used for Field Target but those targets cost about $100 bucks each so that might be a while and it could be possible that we will try to make some up. The area that will be used for Field Target is now a range used by muzzle loaders with a lot of steel clangers hanging but they are all heavy duty to take the punishment of the heavy caliber muzzle loaders. Anyone that shows up would be welcome to go over to the metal plate range and shoot at the hanging steel some of the close ones will move a little bit when hit but as the distance increases it becomes harder to tell if you have even hit them. If some guys have some of the larger caliber hunting air rifles want to try them they might find some worthy targets.

I will say that we are very new to this air rifle stuff so if someone shows up please be patient we are new to this type of shooting although the club has been in operation since 1963  and we have held many matches including state championships and NMLRA TERRITORIAL matches we would love to have you come out to shoot muzzle loaders too!

The club address is 1637 NW 550th Rd, Kingsville MO. there is also a web site http:/fortosagemuzzleloaders.org/  there is a map on the home page we are about 22 miles East of Kansas City  on 50 Highway.
