Post by: KevinJBrown on April 06, 2021, 09:34:27 AM
Welcome to the 1st 100 yard match of 2021. Sorry, I lost a day but I think we can still agree to have this one due on Sunday.
This match will run for 3 weeks. The rules and targets can be found at the rules and targets thread for this match http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=125759.0 (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=125759.0)
Post a scan or picture of the target by the end of the day Sunday April 25, 2021.
If you are not a member of the NUAH Club and would like to join or would like to upgrade your Division standing, your submitted target can be used for that also. Post it as a separate request to call attention to that please. All the rules to becoming a member of the NUAH Club must be followed also.

Please include with your submission:

Name
Airgun
Sights
Pellet/Bullet
Position
Score and Group Size
Any other info you would like to share (weather, pictures, etc.)

Have Fun and Enjoy the match.

Results of the first match are:

Fussell -                  50/50 w/1x 0.95 ctc

.30
Fussell -               50/50 w/1x 0.95 ctc

Nice shootin' Jimmy. I may have to put up a target with the Marauder just to have a score to go with you next month. We'll see how people do. Let's get those submittals in Gents and Ladies.

Wow, getting down to the wire and no one entered yet? I spent all evening getting ready. Weed eated to the 100 yd target. Setting out bullet traps. Was planning on shooting tonight as the winds usually calm down after dark, but it got so bad I brought my gun in as I was afraid the wind would blow it over? Hopefully it will be calm enough to shoot tomorrow night? Here's some pics of the set up today.

Alright gonna post my first submission in a bit. Right now here is my set up and how I shoot at night when the wind is my friend!

In this video, is my targets are set up with a flashlight off to the side to illuminate them for me. I started filming and walking just inside 50 yds from the target. The tree with the ladder is 68 yds from my back porch. The targets just a hair over 100 yds of course.

Some pics of the set up.

OK, here is my submission for our first match of the year 2021. One thing is for sure, I can't blame it on the wind!

Jimmy Fussell
FX Boss
10-50x60 SIII Sightron on 30 power , shot at night, little to no wind, temps sub 50 degrees
0.30 cal JSB 44.75 grain
Standing Bench Front and rear bagged
score 50/50 w/1x 0.95 ctc

Took me six cards to break the inch barrier with this card and made the same score again on the 7th and last card.

Nice shooting Jimmy! I’ll take any 50/50 card; any day, and twice on Sunday.  Liked all the pics and video of your set up.

I’m out of action for a while as I had a total right knee replacement surgery on 4/13.  Can’t tell you how bad I want to get back to the range and these NUAH monthly shoots.  Shot some practice NUAH cards with the RAW back in March and they were terrible.  It was me being out of practice! Look forward to getting back, maybe in June.

I think this is the year you are going to ‘sweet talk’ that Boss into putting 5 in the X ring!

Oh man it's only been a little over a week since your surgery? I had no idea! Hope the recovery goes as smooth as my hip replacement.  But...... I think I was shooting better before the hip replacement???? LOL  With me being able to shoot at home, while waiting for windless days makes a big difference over you having to deal with what's thrown at you with going to the shooting range. Yours is more like a real match situation, where mine are cherry picked shooting days and cherry picked groups of course!  Oh, what I would give for just 50 yd indoor range!!!! LOL.

Been shooting so many guns here lately. Shooting the Huben today. Shot a few holes in an old bleached out deer skull at 52 yds, shot an Interceptor Ballistic Panel at 28 yds just for giggles. I would hate to be wearing that ballistic vest while someone was shooting the Huben at me? I think it could still crack a rib or worse yet the sternum?

Been playing with my Ayrtekk Booster pump. Been using strictly nitrogen on the high and low side. Hooked up my little shop compressor that maxes at 120 psi to the low side today and it worked like a champ?

Been using two SCBA tanks with nitrogen and the low side tank seems to run out of air before the high side tank? So the shop compressor should really save me some nitrogen. I just need a stronger shop compressor and a good desiccant filter if I'm gonna make a habit out of it.

Hope that knee heals well and fast, so you can make many trips back and forth to those 100 yd targets!

Peace and pellet grease

Thanks Jimmy.

It’s amazing to have a bit of a wake up call once in a while, to make you appreciate what I take for granted every day. This temporary mobility challenge humbles you quickly and I’m grateful to have the surgery behind me.  Recovery with a lot of PT ahead.   The technology has advanced significantly for this type of surgery.  Duke Hospital and surgical team was the best!

I like your outdoor range setup.  It’s nice to see the background behind the actual shooting session. Don’t apologize for being smart and shooting when the wind lays down.  I would do same if I could.  Besides, it let’s the members see how we and our guns perform in different conditions.   All good.

I’m enjoying Mike’s relatively recent NAT 50 yard Benchrest RF and Airgun format.  I will call you next week to discuss.

Tom

Thanks Tom. Look forward to your call. I need to get back to shooting some Nat 50 cards myself!

Darn, looks like I missed this one.  Probably just as well.  The weather here has been terrible and the few nice days we've had the wind has still been 15 to 25 mph.  Here's what it looked like just five days ago.

Looks like I wuz the Lone Ranger on this match. I feel like the kid on the playground that nobody want's to play with? LOL

Hope it livens up for the next match!

I just remembered I forgot the ruler picture? 4 inches on the 4 MOA line.

Just got back from print shop and had 100 more targets printed on #80 card stock like the last 50 targets I've gone through in the last year.

Thanks for taking over the NUAH Kevin. And thanks for posting my lonely score! LOL
I do wish someone would join me.

I jumped in already on match two. I plan to get out there next with my .25 Custom Cricket Mini and might even give .22 cal a go with the Huben later? At least there will be more than one entry even if I'm shooting my own calibers against each other! LOL

Not a problem. A hundred seems a nice challenge for air rifles. The skills and tools needed seem to be similar to other "magic" ranges for PBs. Same thing with 60 or 80 yards which are other ranges I like to plink at. I bought a bunch of "yellow" targets just before my "heart incident" and I've just been chomping at the bit to go out and shoot them, but I still need to wait. So I really like to see what others are doing. I thought last year about shooting at night, but then I thought my neighbors would be convinced I'd gone round the bend so I don't, but there is a lot of calm air overnight here.

Luckily for me, my closest neighbor is about 100 yds away with a good stand of pine between us. And the next closest is 200 yds on the other side of property with all woodlands between us. It's nothing to hear folks shooting their powder burners out here in the country, so I have no worries to shoot even at night. 100's upon 100's of timberlands behind me. Could take a mile shot if had a clear line of sight.
